What are you paying?

It appears most of you paid MSRP? Who pays MSRP on a vehicle? I have never paid MSRP for a new car.
I was checking to see what the Invoice of our $34,300 vehicle was. It came to $30,870. That's a $3,430 difference. Now you can't tell me that they would not budge from MSRP.

Actually, it's typical for some high-demand cars to get MSRP. My husband's new BMW's were often MSRP and the high-demand Minis were as well. Don't know about other cars, but it's not unheard of. As always, the market drives the price.

When I got my 03, the only people who were getting MCSs were either people who ordered them almost a year before or people who were paying $1-2k OVER MSRP. When I lucked into a car at the dealer that the guy who ordered it backed out on that was exactly what I wanted, I was happy to pay MSRP. It was also nearly a full year that I could have sold the car for what I paid for it.

With my Countryman, our dealer in Portland. Next nearest dealer is 2 hours away. There are only 3 MINI dealers in our part of the country, Sacramento and Salt Lake being the next closest. Zoom out on the dealer locater map on MINIusa.com, there is a pretty amazing lack of dealers in the NW third of the country. Currently the dealers are selling every Countryman they can get so they've got no reasons to offer discounts.

Generally, I agree with you. Paying MSRP is almost as foolish as buying a new car off the lot. Especially in this economy you can get amazing deals on almost everything. Unfortunately, that doesn't include high demand MINI Countryman S all4s in Oregon.

For me, I'm happy to pay it. My 03 has been worth every penny and more, expecting the Countryman to be the same.

I am glad that since I ordered mine they changed pricing so mine dropped $500 and is now under $40k!

I guess I'm fortunate to have 3 dealers all within 1 hr from me. The closest being 30 min. I contacted the newest dealer last weekend. The MA called me back and was offering us better pricing to earn his business. I told him that my wife's was on the ship and he asked to get him the production number to see if he could locate another similar optioned one. I said he wouldn't find one with the options before the 2nd week in Jan when hers is expected to be at the dealer.
I said that I would certainly talk to him when I was ready to order mine. I said I'm not bound to any particular dealer. You treat me well and you'll earn my business.

Have you not already negotiated the price of your car?

Oh, they did say that they'll throw in the floor mats for free. That's something right?

MSRP is about right for a new Countryman. Until the MINI market is flooded with them, you can expect a token off.

If you have three or four dealers in your area, then it is just another haggle environment.

When that happens I will probably haggle or switch back to another limited brand.

Just my thoughts.

They might. They might not. Depends on whether there's someone standing right behind you ready to pay more than you are.

I went into my MINI dealership to pre-order my Countryman but got impatient and ordered off the lot. The build was around $26,600. I got it for $23,900.

I didn't have to haggle, I had some negative equity rolling over from my trade and I guess they really wanted to make the sell. So, if you're ordering off the lot, be persistent!

Wow. You did very well to get such a large discount even for an off-the-lot purchase. Indeed the dealer must have been anxious to move the car. Good for you!

Yeah - I was actually surprised. I suppose when you pre-order they realize you already know what the car will cost so they intend on you paying it. I also live in San Antonio, which I admit - doesn't have the largest Mini fan base... so, that might be a contributor, also. I've seen pictures of your Mini all over the forum, beautiful car...

ccsizzle, Nice Countryman Cooper, good price for a nice Coop.

Thanks for the pictures, let us know how you like it, how is the power non-turbo?

I would like to know what city mileage you get after 200 or 300 miles.

We are getting about 23 in-city after 300 miles in the Denver area, cold and high.

Despicable. I will never do business with a dealer that chooses to price gouge. I understand supply & demand economics but there is no reasonably good excuse to mark up these vehicles beyond MSRP. Shop elsewhere.

I find it very hard to believe that any US dealer has any incentive to discount a Countryman to near invoice right now. My guess is if that's what's shown on paper, you got taken to the cleaners on that "negative trade equity." Just sayin'.
