R60 Some new pictures of the new MINI Crossman
Just because you stick a label on something doesn't mean it is what you call it.
MINI can stick all the Wings logos they want on that thing, but it won't make it any more of a MINI in my mind.
Sorry... you can keep replying if you want. You're not getting through my thick skull.

If you're discussing some amorphous miniesque marketing identity, then it's not so black and white.
But the argument has already been made (even if you choose to close your eyes to it) that you're wrong in this case.
And that's fine, you can FEEL or THINK anyway you want to.
Even if it will make others chuckle at the seeming hypocrisy of it (from a historical perspective).
That's like saying McDonald's is better than Ruth's Chris based on volume.
Just as when the clubman first came out.. I looked at the picture, canted my head.. and my eyebrow rose.. pictures don't necessarily do it justice.. and yeah that paint job isn't helping any conclusions..
I like the clubman, didn't like the pictures...
The new 2009 convertible is out.. went to the dealership sat.. to get on the list.. and after speaking to them.. i think i'll waiting until i see it..
as far as the crossover? the jury is still out.. im curious to see it in person.. and unfortunately this debate will last awhile.. the dealership said we won't see them until 2011... so.. for now.. as always, i remain in love with my 06S..

Not at all.
You're saying that just because more people who have posted on a thread don't like it, you are correct "it's not a Mini"
Me, I'm saying that it shares technology and basic design fundamentals with the Cooper/Cooper S/Clubman, therefore is related, a new branch to the tree.
Returning to food (must be hungry) you're claiming it's not a "Mini"
As if to say Ruth's Chris has only ever served Filet Mingon broiled in butter.
And, upon learning they've added a butter broiled NY Strip Steak, the resulting steak is no longer a true "Ruth's Chris" steak, but is something else entirely (like a McD's hamburger).
Not necessarily.
I'm not debating opinions, I'm not saying the majority are wrong to not like the Crossman
(And BTW, the MAJORITY don't buy Minis - the majority in the US buy more than TWO MILLION TOYOTAS and TWO MILLION GMs each year and well, you get the picture).
My only objection on this subject has been to those who feel it is literally "NOT A MINI" and is untrue to the very "less is more" philosophy put forth by the company.
And as such, if you care to debate, I would put forth a comparison of the expected specs and performance of the Crossman vs. other vehicles in the market segment. I would say the Crossman, as a concept, promises to deliver handling, fuel economy, customized build options and build quality that set it apart from the offerings of other brands. As such, it shares more with the other Mini products than those who feel it "besmearches Mini" care to admit.
That's all I'm saying.
I'm saying to fail to recognize this is to wear a certain degree of blinders.

No. But I will be the first one to shun the Crossman owners.
I'll try not to cry myself to sleep too much...
That's troubling, well sorta.
2011 Model Year will be cutting in close for our needs. That's what, not this summer, but the following right...

I have my own favorite MINI...I think we all do. No problem w/ that...in fact it'd be weird otherwise!!! I also can find something (even lots) to like about all of the MINI models out there...things that make them special/desirable. It's a bit of a mind game. I suspect the same will happen w/ the Crossman once it shows up. Still not sure how much of the concept car will make it to production.
Yeah, that's not right at all. I will admit i was ticked when some of the R56 owners started mouthing off about how much better their cars were than the 53. But imagine how the R53 owners felt when they were shunned by the "original" Mini owners. I remember, because I was stationed in Britain when the new MINI dropped. Mostly every classic Mini I saw had the "100% non-BMW Parts" decal on the back glass. Whatever vehicle gets built by MINI, it's still part of the family. Hey, CR&PW&JB, when a member of your family has an ugly kid, do you shun them as well?

It's all just juvinile crap... again, the star bellied sneeches...
Sure, they can offer it to appeal to a very small part of the "non-steakhouse crowd" that happen to end up there, for whatever reason, but it's not REALLY what they are in business for.
I think a more apt analogy would be to say you go to Ruth's Chris for the chicken.

Seriously - WHAT is Mini known for?
A sporty platform that is smaller than most competitors (stylistically marked with features like a wheelbase which is pushed out to the edge) and that offers an excellent combination of performance and economy, along with high a degree of customizability (with regards to options and packages) including features, many of which, are not as easily found in vehicles of the same price range.
As a concept the Crossman has every single one of these Mini defining characteristics.
I disagree. I think if you ask 99% of people what MINI is known for, and they will say "Cooper!"
You go to Ruth's Chris for a steak. You go to MINI for a Cooper.
You don't go to Ruth's Chris for chicken, even though you could. You don't go to MINI for a psuedo-SUV, even though you could.
MINI is known as being the "anti-SUV", and even ran ad campaigns as such...the inference of adding a crossover to the line is almost comical.

With what, that the Crossman as planned has EVERY SINGLE ONE of those important Mini-defining characteristics?
Or that you just don't like the idea of a 4-door Mini?

I think if you ask 99% of people what a Cooper is they'll shrug.
Mini = SMALL to the VAST majority of people. Nothing more.
Most don't even know the name Cooper or the history (including, it seems, most of the current owners who are Clubman and Crossman objectors)
Even the "anti-SUV" thing is because traditionally SUV = BIG.
Hell, even calling this an SUV is kinda silly, cause it's not supposed to be that big.
For pete's sake it's still just a 4-seater, with a projected wheelbase/length of a Clubman. That would make it smaller than a Suzuki SX4, don't even tell me the you think the general public perceives THAT AS AN SUV?
SUVs may even BE chicken in this similie, but the Crossman isn't.

I'd suggest refraining from judgment on the new vehicle until it hits the showroom floor...
On a side note: I find it interesting Mini has made a great new Cooper, a terrific convertible, and a fantastic Clubman, yet some in this thread immediately assume Mini has suddenly forgotten how to design a good looking car.
