R60 Some new pictures of the new MINI Crossman
Other vehicles in consideration, but with less passion - 330Xi and WRX (both being a little on the large size for the garage space we have available) or possibly, with absolutely no passion, the SX4.
The Crossman would be a slam dunk over all of those for our particular wants/desires and needs.
I like it! (Now that I can see some detail - granted it might not actually look like this.) Anyway... I'd still rather have Clubby, but maybe I could talk my fiancé into one of these instead of a Jeep!
Just think of the NEW HISTORY this thing is gonna create! You talk about the history of the MINI...well racing has always been part of our proud history...this thing is gonna clean up in events like Dakar, WRC, Pikes Peak etc. Just you wait! All you haters who are slammin this thing are gonna be eating your hats over it when it finally hits showrooms.
Well, I say "hurrah" for the Crossman, although it'll be tough to get used to seeing a bigger MINI out on the lot. Such is life. MINI owners have tended to be somewhat curmudgeonly towards new offerings anyway (you name it, we've hated it) and I suppose this is somewhat understandable given our extreme loyalty to the marque, debonair good looks, above-average intelligence, exceptional good taste, and lack of body odor. However, we do tend to come around eventually. Such will be the case here.

I'm an old fart in my prime earning years, and even I can't afford that kind of a turn-around.
If I recall correctly, you posted in another thread that you just recently turned 16 years of age...you already have a new R56 to which you've made several mods, and are now claiming you're going to get a Crossman when they are available?

It's ugly in this shot. We haven't seen it in production status yet. Give it a chance. Many said the same thing about the Clubman. Hell, many of us said the same thing about the R56 !!!!
What makes you think most people have changed their minds about the Clubman or the R56 ?? Because they're selling ?
You have that select few that like certain things. We all knew it would be a matter of time before BMW jumped on the bandwagon and created an SUV. personally,I'd rather see a legit pickup, or better yet a Riley Elf inspired MINI.
Actually I answered this last week, but since you asked:
OY VEY, I can already see I'm going to be rowing upstream against the elitists on this one.
Look, I'm not going to get into a philosophical debate regarding the "essence" of Mini - HOWEVER, taking a look against the possible competition for the past week or so, this SAV WOULD BE SMALLER THAN THE OTHER CROSSOVERS ON THE ROAD - early reports put it smaller than the Suzuki SX4 which is probably the closest relative in size.
That said, technically a "Mini" is whatever BMW decides to throw the badge on.
But as a early Gen I owner, I'm betting this holds true to the spirit and allows Jenn and I too keep a Mini in the garage when it otherwise might have been replaced by something we'd love less.
Kev
and as put in this other thread
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y-shots-2.html
I always get so amused by those whose sensabilities are so offended by a COMPANY doing what a COMPANY is supposed to - grow, expand their offerings etc.
The very existance of this thing does not cheapen the car you love so much.
Besides, for every one Gen 1 or Gen 2 offended owner, there's an owner of an original mini that was offended by the Gen 1.
and
ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!
I guess it's just human nature to succumb to that "mine is better than yours" attitude. That explains it, but doesn't forgive it.
I see it in just about everything in which I'm involved, from Motorcycles to Boats to Skiing or ??? and it's silly every time.
though I'd add

To all of you "purists" who are pitching a fit over the pending "Crossman", have you ever looked at the history of the Mini models that have been built?
There were the Mark I - Saloon/Sedan and Estate/Wagon. (reincarnated as the Cooper and Clubman) Then came the Mark IV - Pickup, Van, Moke, Elf/Hornet and Cabriolet.
Notice that not all of them were extremely popular, but all of them had their niche and NONE OF THEM destroyed the company.
I can't understand why you would be upset about the diversification of models? It will not make your loved models less MINI. You won't be forced to buy any thing you don't like. The Cooper and Cabrio will continue to be the majority of MINI sales. The Clubman and Crossman will be niche players inside of a niche player, which will make them more unique and possibly collector's items in the future.
I am happy that BMW/MINI is working to keep the brand growing and diversifying. A more diverse company with a larger customer base will be stronger and will have a good chance of surviving the world's present economic problems.

I don't have a problem with people having different taste, with them liking or disliking something I like.
I have a problem with (roll my eyes at) the elitism and snobbery that leads people to myopic statements of blatant inaccuracy. i.e. "it's not a..."
But I didn't roll my eyes at that.

Sorry, but the MINI name stands for something in my eyes and that thing besmearches the name. MINI is not about SUVs. Huge mistake by the company, IMO.
"uh duh, that's kinda what I meant when I quoted it the first time and said ---->
). But again, this is the star bellied sneech argument once more.
The elitism.
Look, don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that Mini owners are so passionate. It's been a big part of our enjoyment with the marque, but seriously "besmearches" the name? Like a big scarlet letter "A" on the breast of the proud Cooper
I find the thought falls somwhere between sad and humorous.
I'm flattered that you're spending so much time on me today, Kev.
To be honest, I didn't bother reading all those links and the essay's you've been posting in reply.
Sorry... it's just not THAT important to me and you'll never change my mind, even if you type a million words.
It's UGLY and it's not MINI-like.
Call me elitist, if you like. I kind of like that label. Thanks !

I think everyone is worth the time of day. I'm non-elitist that way.
Though I'm elitist enough to enjoy some more than others - like Mini-enthusiasts like yourself.
That makes me sad, because if you did, you MIGHT see another point of view...
I'm not actually trying to get you to change your mind (i.e. like it), I'm simply attempting (and it looks like it won't happen) to broaden your outlook to see why it might not actually diminish your beloved car, brand, image etc.
I'm not trying to illicit an emotional response to either end with saying your STATEMENT or ATTITUDE is elitist. Nor am I making any judgment about you as a person. So, no I'm not actually trying to label YOU as elitist, so much as the position you take on this car not being a "Mini" when the plain black and white fact of it is whatever BMW markets as a "Mini" is defacto a "Mini"
