I kind of like it but I will reserve final judgment until the real thing comes out. It looks to be about the size of the original Honda CR-V which is about 1/2 the size of the current CR-V.

I don't see what the big deal is. I think a lot of people are making judgements based on some spy photos. Also, I think the Clubman owners should be the folks most upset. I have a Clubman and I don't mind the Crossman coming at all. In fact I think I'll love it. I love every Mini though so that's just me.

Has anyone leaked the dimensions of the Crossman (wheelbase, height, width, etcetera)? I think a lot of my opinion on how the car looks is going to depend on how big it actually is. I didn't like the Clubman either, until I saw one in person.

The only figure I've seen so far is that it will be over 4 meter

I posted it earlier in this thread:

I think the final size is gonna define it for sure.

Original reports claimed it would be Clubman size, but now it's sounding like it will be a little bigger (i.e. "over 4 meters") or MORE than 157" (the overall length of the clubman).

So it depends how much more - here are some comparitive figures to put it in perspective

Cooper/Cooper S - 146"
Clubman/Clubman S - 157"
Suzuki SX4 - 163"

Dodge Caliber, Jeep Patriot, WRX/Imprezza - are all 173.8"

328iX - 178.2"
X3 - 179.9"

And let's keep in mind that that X3 is far from BIG when it comes to SUVs.

The X1 is reported to measure at 176" or just 4" shorter than the X3 and 2" shorter than an iX.

But that's the X1 and even if the Crossman shares underpinnings with it I would HOPE that body differences would still be enough to shorten it more.

I guess it would have to come in somewhere shy of about 170" for me to really consider it a "Mini" compared to other offerings on the market.

And if so, it would still be shorter than just about everything else in its class.

But I'd be happiest if they brought it in around 160" or so maybe a HAIR more, but still less than the SX4.

But time will tell.

if you pay close attention the back side... .the spoiler is one piece.. hence a hatchback. the lines of a clubman door are painted on it to fool the eye. So far it's fooling alot of eyes so the fugly paint is doing it's intended job.

Same here, and to be honest I'm still not a Clubman person and have decided to leave it at that (I'm not an MCS person either). In other words, "it's not my thing" is about at far as I let things go in my own mind.....it is enough. I am not prepared to hate any MINI much less issue any barbs.

You got that right!! If anything BMW has certainly mastered the art of camo...I can't even stand to look at it for very long!! Makes me queasy.

IDK, that was the cool part..I agree they just have a bunch of "junk" on it to hide it . . . I have to much faith in MINI for them to ruin it and come out with something ugly. . . It will break my heart if its ugly, lol. <3 <3 <3

I guess theres a market for everything. I would be surprised to see many of these sell. It's not what I would want in a mini. I like the first gen best personally, and If I wanted an SUV it wouldnt be a mini. It kind of defeats the purpose of "mini" to me. very creative camo though, it does a great job of hiding the vehicles looks.
I think they should learn from the american auto makers. dont concentrate on SUV's instead "go green". like the E, or D. thats where the trend is going. especially when gas jumps to $4. again.

I thought it was ugly before I even looked at the pics. A MINI SUV is the worst thing they could do, and theyre doing it.

There's no better substitute to prove one's wisdom than to keep an open mind, and vice versa.

This is off-topic, but I was behind a brand new Nissan Cube today. Strangest looking car I've ever seen, reminded me of a phone booth on wheels. The rear end is also asymmetrical, with a rear pillar on only the drivers side, and wrap-around glass on the passenger rear. Weird!

Seems there is a lot of negativity towards a MINI SUV, however the same can be said for Porsche when they introduced the Cayenne.

A few years after the release of the Cayenne, it is their #1 seller and is widely respected by many throughout the industry.

I'm excited about it, it took me a bit to warm up to the clubman too. We own a beetle and a mini so something a bit bigger with some ground clearance is appealing. The fact thats its a mini too sweetens the deal. The only other thing I'm looking at it an older Audi Alroad

I saw this online: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=8248
Countryman – 158 long(13'-2"), 63 height, 72 width, 102.6 wheelbase (from the Road & Track article)

Clubman – 155.8 long(12'-11.8"), 56.4 height, 66.3 width, 100.3 wheelbase

MCS – 146.2 long(12'-2.2"), 55.4 height, 66.3 width, 97.1 wheelbase

compare to:
BMW 328iX - 178.2 long, 55.9 height, 79.3 width, 106.7 wheelbase
Suzuki SX4 Crossover - 162.8 long, 63.2 height, 69.1 width, 98.4 wheelbase
BMW X3 - 179.9 long, 65 height, 73 width, 110.1 wheelbase

It seems very close to a Clubman just slightly bigger and obviously taller. Obviously smaller than the X3.

Thanks for that post.

If it comes in at 158" that will truly make it "Mini" compared to other compact utes, includingt the X3 and the reported data on the X1.

Which is good, because absent this vehicle, my wife is leaning towards replacing her now over 100k 03 Cooper S with an X3.

Time will tell.

My 06 R53 will be at a good trade in value come 2010 spring.. oh what do you know, the R60 is supposedly coming then..

I definitely want to stay in the MINI family though, that's for sure. I was looking at the Scirocco for the longest time but VW isn't bringing it :\ Oh well. AWD R60 sounds yummy enough
