Hi new member reporting in

Hi guys, Just want to say hi, I am a 19 yrs college student currently in the market of buying a new car, I have narrow down my choice to three very different car, STi, 350z, and the New MCS (hopefully JCW). So yea joing the forums hopefully to learn more about the MCS!

Well, right away my first question is, have anyone of you guys (male driver) ever encounter any sort of problem from the public because you drive MCS? After recently watching Top Gear episode on USA I am rather worried about drivng MCS into the deep south.

Thanks in advance!

Never had anybody say anything to me, nor would I care. Buy whatever car you think fit's you the best :-).

I owned a G35 Coupe 6mt, an M3, and i'm on my Second Mini, something about this car just keeps bringing me back . There are mixed reviews about the new Mini. personally I don't like it (The headlights on it look weird turned sideways, also the car is much higher looking, and overall just doesn't look as sporty to me). I'd advise you to look at both cars and see which one you like best. Functionally both cars are pretty much the same (The 02-06 is Supercharged, the new 07's are Turbo). Personally I think the SC gives the Mini a bit of personality

Wow~! thanks for the quick reply!, well I think i am probably sticking with the new one, since its lighter and i heard the new engine is a beast, able to do 40mpg in real world highway crusing (which i really really need consider that i will have to do 300~600mile per weekend soon) and also able to put down 174whp.

also another quick question... do mini USA offer european delievery?

Thanks~!

I looked at both a slightly used '06 MCS and a new '07 MCS...
The two were tested back-back (same roads, same night, same traffic...)

the '06 was punchier and felt more lively... (SC) the suspension felt tighter... kinda like the difference between Golden Ret. puppy and a mature Lab.

The '07 def. had more power, but you had to wait longer to get it... its much easier to kick in the tract. control on the 06.

That being said if you drive like an old lady on HW cruising mode (like my 100 mi r/t commute) you can get into the low 30's easily. (32 on last fillup).
The '07 does have better fuel econ. due to the turbo not being 'always on'

on the flip-side, if you open up the exhaust on any turbo car, and yank the muffler, the turbo still greatly muffles the exhaust, so you can get more power and be very aggressive on Aftermarket exhausts

(I have a Porsche 944 Turbo Cup car, and don't give a rat's @$$ what anyone says about my choice of rides, but then again, I've had 4 women absolutely LOVE the MCS)

If I didn't get the '06 MCS, it would haev been a VERY tough call to get the '07 or an '07 VW GTI (with the 2.0 Turbo kicking ~200hp)...
But the Mini community is really great... lots of people (mostly guys in MCS) wave as you go by...

HTH! (and good luck!)

Thank for the warm welcome~!

As for the problem I was asking its just that after I watch Top Gear season 9 Episode 3, which was about the gents from Top Gear took a trip from Miami to New Orlean(sp), as they were going through Alabama they decided to try to get each other kill, so they put on offensive message on their car, I think the most offensive being gay marrage, I know this is not true but in many people's mind Mini=stylish=girlish=guy driving= metorsexual/gay....(i know is not true) but yea i am just wondering.

Last weekend, Gulf South Motoring (only 6 MINIs this time) had a run down to Maurepas ,LA for lunch. We drove in to a giant barbeque cook-off, lots of Hummers, big trucks, and Mustangs. We got a lot of looks, and one of our guys said "I never felt so gay before" , but we hung out there for a good while, and no one gave us a bit of grief.

I think if one worked at it, you could get some ill will directed at you, but that is true anywhere, with or without a MINI.

Welcome to NAM. Good luck with your decision, I d not think you can go wrong with a MINI though.
