Looking to buy MCS

Hello, 1st post, and for me, i am looking to get an MCS, which would still be under warranty (to fix any bits and bobs that needed doing).
Posting here as opposed to wanted because need to get rid of other vehicles 1st, in order to finance the purchase price.
MCS would be for my wife (the MC is her preference, the S part is mine).

Will be unloading a 2001 Range rover with 70k miles, and possibly a 73 tii as well.

In return i'll get a 95LWB rover, and my wife will get an MCS.

So that's it really. I have rented an MC before and driven it, as well as driving my cousin's MCS, and really like the driving experience.
I have a friend that is into Mini's and as he says "a mini is a 2002 with a warranty".
I am starting to agree, although the 73tii 5 speed is a little pocket rocket

Any input on what price points i will be looking at are welcome. It seems like (IMHO) mid teens can be expected for an MCS.

All the best,

Karl.

depends

Where are you located?

The price greatly depends on year...What year vehicle are you looking for?

and I did not understand what you will be getting.....wife gets MCS and you get what?

thanks newdl.

located in NY, just outside of city in rockland county.
i will get a truck .. range rover 1995 lwb (long wheel base) as i like these trucks .. witness my present truck, which is a 2001. older truck will replace newer truck.

as for year, i don;t know much about differences in model years to be honest.
i mentioned that i would prefer the MCS to be inside warranty period, so that is (i believe) 45k or 4 years.
That puts me at a search for a 2003 car with less than 45k miles (a 2002 would be past the 4 year warranty period by now).

Thanks for any input,

Karl.

I would take a good condition 2002tii over a Mini

so valcom111t, would you swap your hyber blue mcs for such a tii?
mechanically my tii is excellent, with 5 speed and kugelfischer in perfect working order. it has solid rockers, and straight frame, never hit. mileage about 145k. it has some rust issues ... as they do tend to, and this was a california car.
base of nose, front fender on each side, needs new trunk lid, at base of doors, and rear passenger fender has old repair that would need fixing.
other than that she is fine.
i got a quote for a complete restoration of $15k, but this from a top shop.
Not really ready, to be honest, to put in $15k on top of $10k already invested.

I think if I were in your situation I'd defiantly hang onto the 2002. You just seem to be downgrading by getting rid of the Rover and the 2002, only to get an older Rover and a MINI for your wife.

That's pretty much it really.
Exchanging old 2002 and newer rover for older rover and newer 2002 (if i can call an MCS, an updated 2002, or what a 2002 would be today).

Doing this would give us one newish car and one older truck, which is pretty much the reverse of what we have ... newer truck and older car.

I really enjoyed the ride of an MCS, and the handling, go cart like, going where you point it..

valcom111t, what attracts you to MCS? You seem to have picked out a nice one in nice color etc.

I also have been looking at threads about reliability and problems with minis, but that could happen with any car really, and as a rover owner i had heard all the stories on it, before i purchased. It has been bulletproof really.

The residual values of the MCS seem to remain pretty solid.
I was looking at a new MCS online, thru the website, and priced out a pretty basic MCS for $22k, and with a sport package + extras for $25k.
That is for 2006 MCS.
Considering that people are asking high teens for 2 year old MCS with 35k-40k miles, seems like the value is only losing about $3k a year.
That would seem to suggest that it holds its value pretty well.
Not sure about JCW though.

Any thoughts?

Karl.

MINIs hold their values really well right now, but with the new model coming out I doubt this generation will hold its value as well as it has in the past. I really love the small size and the "chuckability" of the MCS. It really is a driver's car. After driving an S10 for the past 5 years, the MCS will be a huge upgrade.

you lead onto an excellent point ...the arrival of the r56 ... 2007 mcs.
It is due in Feb? or April?
Pricing to start at $800 over present MCS'?

i am just wondering what will happen to 2006 models and how demand will be stimulated until replacement arrives.

thanks for the info.

With this in mind, one wonders why people will order MCS' this winter if the new MCS is out this Feb?
OR how the BMW marketing machine will continue to puff up sales in light of an impending new model launch.

I guess that some of it has to do with the fact that there is no real dealing on MC's and that price (which often enters into the equation with other manufacturer's) is not a factor here.
Other manufacturers will discount heavily (in general) with a new model or even a refreshed model, but that is not the case here i would imagine.
Coupled with the fact that the cars will look very similar.

Any thoughts?

Karl.
