What's the Longest Wait at the Port?

My MCS arrived at the port on September 29th. As of today, it still shows that it is "awaiting transport" on the OL, and also when I call ASKMINI.

I emailed my MA last Friday, he told me it was at the port and would be loaded on to the "USS MINI", and would be here in a couple weeks. I didn't even bother to respond to his email.

So what's the longest someone has waited before they caught a ride across the pond?

Hey there,

I have GP1292 that also went to port on the 29th. The WW website still shows no info. My MA said their system showed the same and they would watch it and let me know soon as it updated. There are actually 4 GP's my dealer has which were sent to port on the 29th. I would agree the USS MINI comment was them just being a smart @ss! These MINI orders should come with a script for Valium. When I ordered my 2003 Velvet Red MC I about went nuts between 26 April and 3 July 2003!!!:impatient

I was starting to think I was doing something wrong on the WW site. I must plug my VIN in at least 20 times a day.

Does anyone know how many other companies aside from WW that they use?

I don't know how many other companies they use, but it could definitely be on another ship. I changed orders and the first car I ordered was not trackable by WW... the one I'm waiting for now is.

DO NOT go by the Owner's Lounge. My car is on a ship as we speak, in the middle of the Atlantic (since Friday) and my OL is still saying "Awaiting Transport."

The best way to find out is to call your MA... don't email them because they don't have to respond (as you found out). I did, however, just email an MA at my dealer about something else and he confirmed that my car is on the Integrity. My dealer (and I would assume all of them) have a status report that shows where cars on order are. He knew it was on that boat and that it would get to Charleston when the WW site said it would.

So, if you can't track your car on WW (and some cars can't be tracked that way), hassle your MA. They have the info. They can give you a ballpark date.

When I received mine 2 years ago, it sat at the port for a month. They had run out of the right motor oil and it took them a couple of weeks to get it in. By that time, so many newer cars had piled up in front of mine, it took another few days just to get to mine. It was frustrating.

Mine sat at the port for over a week (it seemed like two, but more like 1.5). It ended up not being put on a WW ship. One of the other companies they use is K-line, but their ships are not trackable, nor can you track cargo that has been loaded. There were a few others in my production week that experienced the same "black hole" feeling, and we all seemed to be headed to the port of Charleston. A day or two after it was loaded, my MA notified me and it still took a few days for the OL/ASK MINI to catch up. Once you know the ship's name, you can at least get an idea of the arrival date by checking the K-line website (assuming you're on one of their ships) http://www.kline.com/PCC-RoRo/schedu...ticshuttle.asp. Don't worry, your MINI hasn't really fallen into a black hole, it only seems that way! Just wait until it's sailing with no way to track it...

I'm a west coaster but my MCS arrived at port 9/25 and sat for a week. I'm on the Madame Butterfly (based on estimated arrival into Port Hueneme). No info on the WW site even today and OL took a week to update to indicate it was enroute.

My car sat at port for two weeks. Ask MINI couldn't tell me anything and OL MINI wouldn't update. I called my MA and left a message. I finally went through the ASK MINI automated and believe it or not, it was the most up to date and finally told me my MINI was being shipped. My MA finally called back the next day and confirmed it was indeed on a boat. I find that the OL MINI is about 4-5 days behind.

Hang in there. I know it's frustrating but it will be here before you know it!

If any damage occured during shipping, time at the DC (distribution center) may be quite long, as in months. BMW is required to disclose if the damage is serious, as that might affect resale value. However a week or two generally only means that the paperwork hasn't yet made it through all the buracracy.

My status on the OL (and at ASKMINI) has finally changed to En Route! So based on when other people have said their car was loaded to when the status changed for them, I figure it has been underway for about 6 days.

Checking the Port of Charelston schedule, I only see 3 more ships due in the next 30 days that are carrying vehicles. 2 of them are WW ships (which I know i'm not on). The other is "EMDEN" CAROLINA SHIPPING, scheduled to arrive on the 19th.

Tracking this ship on sailwx.info it appears to have left England on the 7th. So this just might be my ship!

first off, OL is always 3-4 days behind the actual progress of your mini.

Also, mini uses other shipping lines then WW. this is the main reason why ask mini cannot track your car after it leaves the factory in oxford. If your information doesnt show up on WW. it is most likely on another ship that is not a WW ship.

Also...if the port can help it, they will try to move cars as fast as possible. They do not make money if cars just sit on their lots. This is a common issue with people tracking their mini. They think its still sitting at the port, because OL is so slow to update, and ask-mini has no info. In reality the car is halfway across the atlantic. My car sat at the port for 2 days and then was loaded onto the Manon. When my OL finaly updated to enroute, the ship had already been sailing for 4 days. It takes exactly 10 days to get from southhampton england to NY.

Some people have had stuff go wrong and had to end up waiting a while, but most of the time the car is own its way and you just dont know it. It is the "dark age" if your mini doesnt get on a WW ship, as the WW ships are the only ones you can track.

hope this helps. G'luck and hang in there!

Uh, yeah, forget your MA and call the manager. The manager has the info, not your MA. Your MA will have to go to the manager. This way, you eliminate one step. That's what I did.
