My first "people noticing my mini encounters!

When I bought my mini the sales manager told me "you are going to have so much fun, people will wave at you and want to ask about the car". After 3 weeks driving....nothing. Decided it was just a nice sales pitch, doesn't matter since I love the car. Then today I was stopped at a light and a guy was waving at me to roll down my window. "How many cylinders does your car have? I really want to buy one!" Later when I was parking two women were staring at the car with big smiles and said "we love your car, it is so cute"! Wow....not just an urban legend...it really happens!!

Nope it's not a sales job -- it really does happen!
While doing my homework on the MCs, I read about the waving quite often.

A three week owner of an '03 MC, I get waved at all the time by other MC drivers. Blew me away the first time it happene -- glad I didn't rear end the guy in front of me!

Enjoy the ride as MC owners are just NICE people!

So are MCS owners!

I find the attention levels vary geographically. Some areas I get stopped and asked about the car all the time other areas MINIs are common enough the questions are a little more spaced out.

98% of the time the attenion is good, it's the other 2% of the time that keeps me on my toes.Though I will say it is quite fun when you park in the company of PCA, Ferraris Lotus's (Loti?) Noble's, NSXs and the crowd passes those cars to ask about your MINI.

Got my mini in Feb. of this year and I still get comments (all good one!) about once a week.

We get comments all the time, we have had our mini for well over a year, and it still happens on a weekly basis, there is more mini's in my area now, so the comments are spaced out a little, but initially, it was almost on a daily basis , we just love our mini and everyone else seems to also. They are such fun cars, the only disappointment I have is not all the mini owners in my area wave or acknowledge other minis, I do though.

We started keeping track of "face prints" on the window. It's pretty funny and a sign what happens when you're not around.

I am addicted to waving at other MINIs. I don't care if they are in the far other lane, I will stick my hand out the window and wave, even if they don't see me. Heck, one time I glanced out my side window, saw a MINI, so I waved. I then realized it was an ad on the side of a bus.

Dude,

I love waving at other minis too, it's almost a compulsion. Here in LA, I rarely get a wave back, makes me sad. But, every so often I bump into someone who is looking to wave also, and I get one back. A few weeks ago we were in Santa Barbara for the day. As we drove down one of the back streets, we passed a CR MCS. Before I could even get my hand off of the wheel, both the passenger and the driver were waving. That's exactly what we need, co-motorers who know that they have the responsibilty to wave as well My g/f knows this, that's why she is a keeper

I haven't passed any other MINIs yet! So haven't had a chance to wave. I did meet one other guy with his MINI while picking up a friend at the train station, but he wasn't too interested in talking.

But two days after I got Logan, I pulled up into my driveway, and after I got out I heard the kid across the street scream, "Nice car!"

I'm looking forward to passing other MINIs soon!

So the other morning I'm driving I-25 at 5:00 AM going to work doing about 70 mph with my top down (of course ), when I see this U-Haul truck speed-up and then pull along side. The guy starts yelling out his window asking me questions about my Mini . I'm like Dude, I haven't even had my coffee yet:impatient! But I answer him and he waves and I speed up into the sunrise.
Sometimes are better for Q&A than others but they are all good.

Enjoy your ride. It's only the beginning

Very cool! I was parked outside a little restaurant at lunchtime yesterday and as I walked by my car to go to another store, a guy walking by did a total double-take, checking out my car as he walked away. Then, not 10 minutes later, as I was walking back to my car, two guys were stooped over next to it, peering in the window and checking it out. I was like 'hey!' and one of they guys said 'THAT is cooooool!'

Super ego boost! I certainly never got that from my Civic!

So on Fridays we get to leave at 11:00 AM and I'm heading home . I'm sitting at a light in downtown Denver when this really really stretched limo pulls up next to me. Then the limo starts to pull into the intersection - lights red dude (WTF ). When the rear window is even with me the window rolls down and the guy in the back starts talking to me about my Mini . We're chatting away while his driver is getting honked at and flipped-off.
Light turns green and we go our own ways .

You gotta like driving a Mini!!!

I still have random encounters on a pretty regular basis...mainly at gas stations and restaurants.

Gas stations provide the curious person the perfect opportunity to catch me standing by my car, and to bring up questions about gas mileage (Q: What kind of mileage do those things get? A: How do you drive?).

Restaurants are probably a close second because (generally speaking) people going out for dinner are in a sociable mood and take the opportunity to compliment the MINI (Nice car! We've looked at those. How do you like it?)

It never gets old

Happy motoring

Ditto! I don't mind talking to people i don't know and answering the same questions over and over. actually, i do mind, but it goes with the territory...

Keep in mind the MINI = kid magnet:

When i went to my mom's house the other day and the 9 y/o kid stuck his greasy nose up to the drivers' side window, i laughed...

When the 2nd kid rode his bike around it three times- and **way too close** i cringed...

But when the 3rd kid walked up and stuck his hand in my "mail slot", by then i was wishing it had an auto-sensing guillotine in it! (not really. wait- really!)

I so need a garage.

I so miss my '03 MCS... but when I started driving the Moke daily - the attention reaction went way off the meter. My new favorite thing is getting a group WHOOP! from like- all the guys at Corner X gas station every afternoon about 3:30 when I am heading home from work... Thanks Guys or... when a pack of BMX boys want to race in the parking lot - and they are taller than the car... Who needs a fountain of youth?!? not all the MINI owners know I'm in thier club... but I'll wave first.
