The wait is worth it!

The last few days were the worst, but it's ultimately worth it!

I've been running around in Junior five days now, and I'm having a blast - even the daily commute is more fun (there are some *lovely* curves in my office park...)

So hang in there - it gets better!

Yes, hang in there. Your cars will come! I know it seems like they never will, and the fact that others have starting picking theirs up is torture! But, once you get it you'll realize that you have another affliction to deal with - not wanting to get out of your car when you arrive at work in the morning!

Now, a question for those of you who have taken delivery of your cars: I've noticed a hot plasticky smell after driving - has anyone else noticed this? I'm guessing it's just new things breaking in, or perhaps some cosmoline burning off of the hot bits, but since I'm a newbie manual driver, I just want to make sure it's not my clutch or something (I have been doing pretty good though, no clutch-riding or anything like that). Thanks!

I wouldn't worry. Lot's of people have had this... they say it's just he cosmoline or whatever burning off. Personally, I didn't have it...

Thanks for encouraging words everyone, I am usually a patient person and since I had a huge work deadline last week, that made the wait easy, now with not too much pressing it's been more on my mind. I called ask-mini and they said the car was on the way to the dealer, so maybe 2 days now. I can deal with that.

not again

My MA just e-mailed me again. I've been told my car would be at the dealer before the end of the month and now he said maybe by Oct. 2nd. My car has been at the VPC for 9 days so far. Has anyone on the West Coast gotten their car yet? This seems ridiculous!

ship name

I was on the Torrens which I think left Southampton on 8/30. My MA said they are having a problem with the Teamsters who deliver the cars. He said my car was fine so I was relieved to know that it wasn't being held up because of a need for repairs.

There's a lot of "preservatives" and coatings that burn off in the first couple hundred miles or so - not to worry... I had it for the first couple of days, and nothing since.

Yikes, repairs, I hope that's not the case with mine, glad yours is OK. Still no word from my dealer, I have e-mailed him asking. Mine is getting roof racks, stripes and iPod adapter so maybe that is done at the distribution center and is slowing mine down. Does anyone know where these kinds of things are installed?

I'm pretty sure the iPod adapter is done at the dealer... at least that's what my dealer said because they didn't even add it to my order, just said it would be taken care of by them... I believe stripes are the same. Not sure about the roof rack.

Hope your car arrives soon CB surfer.

Stripes are definitely done at the dealer. I'm pretty sure the iPod adapter is as well. Not sure about the rack, but I would assume they do it there, too.

Wow, CB, I can't belive your car would still be at the distribution center. Maybe the system hasn't updated yet and it's just taking a while to get all your goodies installed.

Thanks for the reassurance! I figured it was probably the cosmoline because I am finding it coming out here and there (yes, I have had the infamous ooze from the rear washer jet). Plus, it just smells so much like plastic, I figured it was probably just "preservatives" of some sort.

Oooooh, crap. The rear washer jet. I've been checking the two front ones to make sure that they aren't oozing and screwing up the finish, but completely forgot to check the rear! Any other spots that are supposed to be prime targets for cosmoline ooze? (I remember hearing something about the rear MINI badge.)

Doodlez: did you catch the ooze in time, or did it mar your finish?

Well, I'm a bit pissed because, yes, it did seem to slightly etch the clearcoat right under the chrome sill . I scrubbed and scrubbed with my sheepskin last weekend and it wouldn't take it off . I'm now searching the threads to see what people have done about this. It's not the "stain" that I keep finding in my search, but more of an etching. It's not very noticable to the untrained eye, but I will always notice it...

Funny thing is, the front one had some ooze on it too, but it cleaned up fine .

Nice MINI, too!

Congratulations!

You chose the perfect time of year to pick up a cabrio - the weather is perfect for top-down driving!

Enjoy the roads...

thanks!

Thanks so much for the kind words. We are just getting to know each other. She had her clear bra put on yesterday by an outside installer (half the price of the dealer and he works at a Lexus dealer during the day) and she looks great. I am just waiting for my wet okole seat covers and then my german shepherd, 'Nikita' , and I are on our way to the dog beach. My husband has to wait for his turn!!!

I drove mine home today! It was 4 hours and I drove it on all kinds of roads and tried to break it in with varied driving and have 300+ miles already. What a blast! It really is worth the wait! I'll post some pics tomorrow.
