Just picked up my 2006 SB/S MCSa!

Hi Everyone,

Just took delivery of my 2006 SB/S MCSa this evening. (Traded in my 2003 CVT.)

It only had 8 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. This is what I got:

MCSa
Space Blue/Silver Roof
Dual Panoramic Sunroof, Cold Weather Pack, Black Leatherette Sports Seats, Cold Weather Pack, Anthracite interior and headliner, HK Stereo, MFSW, Silver "U" Bonnet Stripe. That's it!

It is awesome, I love it! Some minor issues to contend with: for some reason, the dealer only received one 1 key and 1 valet key with the car. He said the second regular key was never dropped off with the car and it will be available at the same time my plates should arrive (~2 weeks time). Not a big deal. The 2nd minor issue is that at the top corner of the Silver "U" bonnet stripe there are 3 tiny bubbles in the vinyl. They are very small, maybe 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch each, but they shouldn't be there at all! My MA said they will either try to fix it when I come to pick up the plates in ~2 weeks by using a hair dryer and peeling it back and re-applying, or if that doesn't work, they will install a completely new stripe and remove the "old" one with the bubbles. Kind of disappointing, as it should be "perfect" as can be upon delivery, but my MA promises me they will make it right. I wish they noticed these prior and fixed it prior to me coming in to take delivery. Don't they realize that MINI motorers are very picky perfectionist people?

Lastly, I was kind of concerned when, about 20 minutes into my drive home (it's a 60 mile drive on the highway at speeds of around 70 MPH steady, very little traffic), a bunch of smoke came out of the exhaust as I was slowing down and turning into an off-ramp. Then, I stopped at a convenience store for a few minutes and noticed that, even with the engine off, white-ish/grey smoke was wafting slowly out of both tailpipes. It smelled acrid, like burning metal. The outside air temp was 93 Fahrenheit (a typical HOT SUMMER day in central jersey!) and I had the auto A/C on the entire drive. Never revved the engine over 4,200 RPM or so the entire drive.

The smoke subsided and actually stopped coming out by the time I got home, so I'm hoping it was just some sort of fiberglass filler material in the exhaust system that had to burn off. Does this make sense? The oil level seems to be perfect (although it's very hard to read on the MCS dipstick), the water temp gauge never budged from dead center, and I checked the coolant level in the expansion tank and it is exactly at the "MAX" fill line, a nice clean blue color.

Well, this is my 2nd MINI and I love it as much if not more than my first! The MCSa has quite a kick when the supercharger kicks in. I do miss the ultra smooth feeling of the CVT, but it seems like the MCSa tranny is quite smooth itself, and will probably get smoother once it "breaks in."

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Happy motoring,

-boognish

The smoke coming out is probably the CAT and exhaust wearing in.

The dipstick is so hard to read because the oil is so clean right now :-)

HAPPY MOTORING!!!

the temp gauge is "normalized", so it will always sit in the middle after warming up unless you get SERIOUS hot. i think there's like 50 degrees of movement in the range that show up as "in the middle"...

but it DOES mean that all is well with your ride.

Sooo...did they explain why a delivered car has 8 miles on it?? Did you order it or purchase it from dealer stock? All I have to say is my car better not have over 3 miles on it. No joy riding in my MCS unless I am drivin it!! Congrats on your purchase, and make them make everything right. Its not like we get discounts on these cars.

I wouldn't be worried about the smoke unless you see it again about 1k miles down the road, it was probably just the break-in of the exhaust. I had a loaner almost exacly like that a few weeks ago very nice combination

Good Luck with the MCSa. My fiancee had the same stripe problem, but they replaced the whole thing after a week of messing up the bonnet stripe a couple of times. They actually had to call in an outside company to re-apply it.
