Hello from SLO
Hello from SLO
HI all,
I have been lurking for a bit in preparation for buying my first Mini. I have learned a lot in a short time and want to thank those responsible for posting helpful tips.
My new Mini is a 2004 MCS DS/DS non-sunroof with Works package and a larger intercooler, iridium plugs, nology wires, Dinan ECU. Suspension is Bilstein coilovers with big sways, camber plates, 17" BBS with Pilot Sports and front and underside braces. Brakes are 13" discs by Stoptek. It was a lot of fun to drive home today (200+ miles).
I have been a Porsche guy for a while now and my daily driver is a 97 C2S, which seems asleep on my daily commute, and only wakes up at insaley high speeds. For that reason, I wanted something a litle more "alive" for around town driving...I think the Mini is going to fit the bill.
So I am here in San Luis Obispo, CA, home to some great back roads. My other interests are road bicycling and motorcycling (R1 and Ducati Monster), so if anyone needs to pick my brain about Porsches or this area of the Central Calif coast, feel free. Happy to be here, oficially now.
Steve

And another thing...
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the only negative thing about my new car is that is has a base stereo (pretty much sucks) with a CASSETTE player. No CD even. God, it might as well be an 8-track. That thing is going in the trash and soon.
Geez...somebody worse off than me.
Tell you what: Once I find a CD player, I will SEND you my cassette player. That way you can ditch your iPod and listen to your music the way God intended: with Dolby on magnetic tape.

You'd be better off with an aftermarket system. If you're after a subwoofer get the 10" Pioneer Shallow mount woofer. You can buy or build a box that would fit in the recessed boot area.
Hi Guys and thanks for all your welcoming replies.
Cooper Guy: PMs exchanged...Thanks!
caminifan: I have been in SLO for 9 years and work here as a doc. Great place to live. Years ago when I raced bicycles for UCSB, we'd come up here and I had wanted to move here ever since.
Minian: I think the only concern about an aftermarket head unit is their ability to work with my multi-fxn steering wheel. When I get some time, I will be searching the forum for info and also be looking into Bluetooth kits. Being a doc there are times when I need to drive to the hospital fast (oh darn...) and a handsfree setup would be great.
Looking forward to being around here.
