Production Week 27 (July 3, 2006) Support Group
About Me...
Occupation – I’m a self-employed Computer Technician. My business is called “Clayton The Computer Guy”. Catchy, huh?
I provide on-site computer services (repair, upgrades, troubleshooting, etc.) for primarily home users and home/small offices.
Was in Advertising and Marketing for about 13 years before I became an entrepreneur. NEVER in a million years thought I would do this but always admired those who did (start a business/do their own thing).
Family – This is a little different from most. I am in a committed partnership of 2+ years with Jeff. He has a daughter (married and expecting!) and a son. So I’m sort of a father-in-law. They treat me like that and that’s the best!
Pets - A great cat...a great BIG cat (21 lbs) named Roscoe. He's great. He's been my buddy for almost 10 years. A small, red-ear slider (turtle) named Simon (Thought about this name for the MINI.
) and Cisco, the lovebird. Never had a bird before but this little guy is pretty darn cool.
Interests – Technology, music and stuff that makes me think: movies with twisted plots, the forensics/law shows: Law and Order (pick one), The Closer (love Kyra Sedgwick).
I sing in the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix. We went to Canada this summer and placed second in our competition category at an international choral “event” called Kathaumixw (pronounced Kuh-thou-mew) in British Columbia. It's absolutely gorgeous there! And talk aboot…
…twisty roads! Take a look at the Sunshine Coast! It's like Highway 1 in California but longer and twistier!
Other Vehicles – Just sold (tonight, thanks to craigslist!) my 2002 Suzuki XL7. A big ol’ SUV. Bought it to schlep computer stuff. Got about $1500 more than the highest trade-in estimate. Waaa-hooo!
Why I Got a MINI - Because I wanted to have fun and treat myself. I started looking around with FUN in mind. I knew very little about the MINI other than I thought it was “cute” (I know, I know.) and remembered it from “The Italian Job” (the remake). Went into the dealership, drove both models, went on the waiting list and now I’m still waiting AND can’t wait!
Real Name - You guessed it – Clayton

because I'm still waiting...with my Auto Banner siblings! I have an estimated delivery of 8/16 but since the AB dropped back a day, it's kind of iffy. Should have Jake by the weekend of 8/19-20 for sure though! And will make MTTS, no problem. EDIT: By the time I get my MINI, you'll have 5K miles! According to crishchun's stats, there are 9 of us, total. Six of us are still on the ship!
*chirp chirp*
"Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"All of that silence!"
It looks like it's just astro, clayton, and me... lol. Did everyone take delivery and forget about this crazy thing called PW27SG?

Oh and Clayton, I like the new sig. That's pretty funny that there is a store out there called Mini Jake, of all things! I don't think you'll get in too much trouble though, you should be safe here.

Occupation: I'm the CEO of two small companies. One develops advanced space technology for NASA and the DoD. The other develops algorithms and scientific software for customers in a wide range of industries. I spend most of my time on the first, where I mostly come up with crazy half-baked ideas, talk someone in the gov't into funding them, then figure out how to make them work.
Family: I'm married (5 yrs) with three little boys.
Interests: Main hobbies would be woodworking, kayaking, and snowshoeing... but I haven't done much of any of them since son # 3 showed up...
Other Vehicles: Currently driving a '97 F150 Supercab 4x4, which will be deprecated to weekend dump runs and trips into the mountains once the mini shows up. Wife drives an '06 Odyssey, which IMO actually has really nice performance and handling for a MINIvan.
Why I Got a MINI: I originally got interested in Minis about 15 years ago when I saw an old one (I think it was a Traveller) stashed in a barn up in Snohomish, WA, and I thought it would be really cool to get one and fix it up. I guess I tend to be a little bit 'quirky' (according to my wife), so the mini fits my self-image. But soon after that I fell into the "big truck" lust thing. I was originally planning on upgrading to a diesel F250/350 when my F150 hit ten years, but then I started feeling guilty about claiming I was a "greenie" while driving a big gas-guzzling truck. I thought briefly about getting a SMART car for my commute (there's a company that imports them right near where I live), but then I saw that they were charging $26K for the base model and I thought "jeez, $26K, I could buy one-a-them Minis for that.... heyyyy!"

That and I've been getting all my ducks in a row to sell the Mazda (just put it on craigslist this afternoon, already have two interested!). Had to take it to the carwash today, which meant Evie didn't go to work with me. So my wife ran her all over town instead.
I about had a fit when I got home and found her pulled ALL THE WAY UP in the garage, about a millimeter and a half away from the concrete step
. Her excuse was "I didn't know how far I had to pull up..."
My response? "It's a MINI! Not that far!" After which I proceeded to back Evie up to her proper place.
Oh, and...

Buddha now has over 1300 miles in just two weeks. The Break In period is OVER! Buddha went mountain climbing again today, but was a bit put out that he couldn't go on a hike. They had put a chain across the fire road, so he couldn't follow.
I'm still here too, but also busy with work and getting the transmission replaced in Mosquito....long story.
God knows when I'll take delivery since the Waggoners can't seem to get a truck to the Woodlands!!! ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I feel for you guys. I think I would've pulled out all of my hair at this point!
I go tomorrow to get the windshield replaced in mine, as well as a couple of other things. I am going to have them program the "windows down" button on the remote.
There is a sheet on here somewhere showing all of the programing options. You guys that are still waiting should look it over and let your MA know soon so that he/she can have it ready at delivery.

Well, according to the San Diego Bay schedule website, the AB is still in the "to arrive" column vs the "in port" column. ???
sailwx.info is worthless IMHO.
So, with a hope and a prayer, we wait...some more.

reference to fellow week 27 buyers>>>
good news. got my new toy yesterday. here was the timeline to help with your expectations...
ordered 7/7
completed 7/17
ship date 7/24
arrive port NY/NJ 7/31
at dealer, Morristown NJ for me 8/09.
was quite a lag getting the 27 miles from port to dealer. c'est la vie.
totally worth it.
the MCS w/ 6speed really does cook.
keeping this pup under 4500rpm is really testing my restraint...
hang in there folks. something great is coming...

BTW - I happened to be driving past the NW mini dealer on the way back from the Columbia river, so of course I had to stop in and take another test drive -- just to tide me over. They had a checkmate package car in the showroom, with the silver scoop/silver u-stripe combination that BLISS an Basil have - man, that's a nice look. Almost wish I'd gone with that instead of the black stripes... except now I have some nefarious 'plans' for that center portion of the bonnet...

I hear what you are saying about the silver scoop. Really looks nice. Esp. with the Hyper Blue. I did another configuration on MINIUSA with HB/S and the silver scoop stripe. NICE!
I'm really going to like my CR/B with black bonnets. I'm going to have Aestheticreations.net add the matching boot stripes. Have you checked their site? LOTS of great looks and ideas.
Another configuration I looked at was the CR/Silver with the silver scoop. Now THAT would have been different and SLICK. Ah well, that's what mods are all about, eh?

EDIT: San Diego shows est. departure at 20:00. That's 8 PM, right?

Another setup I really considered was Pepper white with a black top and no stripes. I was going to get a carbon fiber scoop and do a black v-stripe like my silver setup. I think that would look great personally.
Glad to know the HB/S combo is getting good reviews. I ordered it blind, not knowing how it would look, but I am VERY pleased with the look.
