Rooster tail, rooster tail, rooster tail!

Bad news - Nitro got rear-ended today on I95!!
The damage appears to be only cosmetic (and only to the bumper), but I'm not totally sure. And wouldn't ya know it, when I call the offender's insurance, it turns out there's a "coverage situation" - she might not have been covered at the time of the accident!! I am not a happy camper right now....

I'm so sorry Turcicus. That really sucks. On the upside tho, Doogs should be motoring home from her dealership right around now. Maybe she'll post some pics soon to cheer us all up.

What a day!
After much discussion the wife and I decided it would be best if I went to pick up Evie by myself. She gets carsick on windy roads and, well, windy roads were exactly what I had scoped out for my drive back to Austin. I'd have had to let her drive, which I am all to happy to do, but I wanted those first ninety miles to be mine!
So instead, I arranged a one-way rental through Enterprise. Airport-to-airport. I show up, and what do they give me but...a PT Cruiser
. I couldn't contain myself. I gasped and exclaimed "sweet, a Mini!". Suffice to say, the joke was lost on the fine Enterprise staff.
Ninety miles of numb steering and the worst transmission ever, I reached the San Antonio airport (whose roadways, by the way, were designed by M.C. Escher) and made the short cab ride to the Mini Center. I kept my cool as I walked in, and there she was...

If Evie looked good in those dark, grainy photos, she looked even better in person, fully accessorized and all glossed up. The MINIs to either side didn't say it, but you could tell they knew they didn't measure up.
I won't bother with details of the delivery. I learned how everything works (or is supposed to work!), signed my name a bunch of times, and at last got in, hooked up my iPod, and drove off.
The drive home through the Texas hill country was phenomenal. I have made it a couple of times, in a couple of different vehicles (Land Rover Defender, Mazda Protege5, Ford Mustang, PT Cruiser), but driving it with Evie was like watching color TV (or maybe HDTV is more fitting) for the first time. She dove into corners with eagerness, and even staying under 4,000 RPM she was able to scoot past the laggards with ease.
Once I got home, I handed the keys over to the wife and let her drive as we went to dinner and took the long way home (40 miles...).
I am so happy! All the waiting, all the anxiety, all the anticipation were all worth it! My only complaint so far is that one of Evie's driving lights has the wobbles, but I have to head back down to San Antonio in two weeks (hey...gotta push through the break-in!) so I'll just have them look at it then.
Here are a few more pics I snapped on the way home...

Now I just have to change my signature...

Nice ride Doogs...
pix look great, especially with that JCW brake kit. I'd say they were well worth the wait. Hopefully I'll be making the trip down 281 by next weekend. My boat is scheduled to dock today. Can't wait

Doogs! Great pics.
Isn't royal grey ace?
I, for one, found your PT Cruiser joke hilarious. Sounds like quite an adventure to pick Evie up. (and here I was grumbling about a 45 minute drive to the dealership, in my OH's Cooper no less!) <sheesh>

But I have to ask the question, and this goes out to creseida too: how are the leather seats in the heat? That's the only reason I didn't go for them. Previous cars' leather seats have always been painful to sit in during the summer months. How has that been so far?

What a beauty Doogs!!!! That color combo and the silver u stripe is exactly what I am waiting to pick up myself....and your pictures sure made me happy that I chose Royal Grey...soooooo classy....enjoy the ride!!
OK, I've been lurking this thread way too long so I figure I'll chime in while waiting for my MINI to show up. Of course I'm one of those lucky west coast people who get to wait longer than you lucky east coast folks who arleady have yours. Should hopefully be about a week or so more and I'll be able to stop driving my temporary car. Turns out if you list your car for sael it might sell a little more quickly than you think so I've been driving a, get ready for this, 91 Honda Civic CX for the last month. Not the fact that this is a gutless wonder with poor handling should be bad enough but to make matters worse ir has no power anything, no passenger mirror, vinyl interior and worst of all no A/C. I could stnad every thing but the last with the 100 plus weather we had here in California for two weeks. Funny thing about the car when it arrives is that my wife will probably be able to watch it being driven to the dealership past her work as she work in Camarillo which is next to Port Hueneme along the freeway to Universal MINI where we will pick up our car. I can't wait to have a nice car again to drive, just have to fight the wife for it.

Oh man! I'm really feeling for ya. There's no two ways about how much that sucks. Hope everything gets resolved to your satisfaction.
