Help Me Get My MCS Transported Home
Help Me Get My MCS Transported Home
I'm not totally new here but am back after a long absence. I owned and loved a 2002 MC and a 2004 MC and I just bought a used MCS from a private individual in Arizona. I need to get the car to me here in Indiana. I don't need door-to-door service. I am looking for the cheapest, safest way to get the car from Arizona to Indiana. The lowest quote from a transport company has been $988. Any suggestions from you folks? I'm open to anything?
Do you know a responsible college kid or other person who might interested in a little adventure this summer? Buy him/her a cheap bus/plane ticket and send them off to bring your baby home. Pay for their gas and meals and such.
It is a creative idea at least. . .

You can trust me, I get good grades.
While my honest thought is that it'd probably end up being around the same price or cheaper if you put it on a flatbed and that it wouldn't be all that prudent to entrust your newly-aquired MINI to a kid, I'm still available from the 10th to 15th.

If I were you, I'd definitely try to find a way fly down and drive it back. It would be a good excuse to have some fun on the roads along the way back, through AZ, NM, or UT & CO.
Ok, the last leg wouldn't be too fun, but the first part would make it worth while.

I second that! Drive it back!!
OK. I'm doing it. I'm flying out for cheap and driving it back. Actually, I'm taking my 88 year old dad with me for company. I figured how many more chances am I going to have to take a trip like this with my dad? It should be fun. I won't be able to get help with the driving but I think I can handle it if I stop often enough. Which route do you guys think will be the most fun, the southern through Oklahoma or the north through Colorodo?
Yes take your Dad.
My Dad's 89, but his traveling days are over.
I am quite envious of you.
You will have a great time that neither of you will ever forget. My vote is to go the northern route through Colorado. Don't forget to drive up to the top of Mt Evans. Highest paved road in North America.
Have fun & report back with tales of your road trip.

congrats on your new used mini find. make sure you sign up for AAA before heading out. You can use their quicktix service to help map the trip from A to B. Turnaround for the report is fairly quick... a few days to a week to your door and its free with membership.
Hope you dont have any problems driving back... its a used MINI. as you can read, many new ones have been limped back to the dealerships as well...
all the best,

Good thinking, make sure you have a list/map of the MINI dealerships near your route. Might want to consider the locations of those dealerships in your route planning.
But of course, most of all, have fun! My dad's 49 and for now he has to try to drag me along on his roadtrips in a Mini... van.

I bought a 2005 MCS from a pilot on AutoTrader. He left the country today and I am picking up the car from his best friend on Sunday. It is my favorite Dark Silver/Black combo. This is my third Mini but my first S and my first with HK stereo.
I pick up the car in Tucson. Still not sure what route I will take home. I did take the advice of printing out the Mini dealerships along the way. Better safe than sorry (although I had nothing but good luck with my 2002 and 2004 Minis). I'll come back with pictures and details of the trip.
Would taking Route 66 add a lot of time to the trip? Sounds like a cool trip to take but I don't have forever to drive back.

Taking route 66 is somthing you do when you have all the time in the world. put you can still hop onto parts of it along the way.
Well, I made it back home with my beautiful Mini S. It's dark silver with a black top and interior. No major hassles, just a lot of driving from Tucson back to Indiana. Took 40 most of the way but did take several side trips on Route 66. Here are som pics.
