Please Welcome this Newbie
Hi all, My first post here. I am currently an owner of a 2005 Lotus Elise and a 2004 BMW 330Ci. I also have a Suzuki Burgman motorcycle. I am looking to replace my Bimmer and it was some of my forum friends over at EliseTalk (I've recognized a few of them here in NAM, nice folks) that highly recommended a MCS to me. I test drove one a few weeks ago and I now know why you guys are soooooo crazy about the Minis. Its a blast to drive! My big problem now is, as you've guessed, should I get a 2006 MCS or wait for the 2007? I've done some research on this and obviously there are pros and cons to each. I also planned to take it to the track once in a while. Do you think a stock MCS would make a decent track car? I was considering a 2006 Honda Civic Si which I believe would make a better track car but it really doesn't look that hot. For my first post I think I stop here and not write a novel.

Elise sweet ... thats the one you want to track
Lots of discussion of 06 vice 07. Just consider that the first year of ANY new model will have bugs and everyone who buy in 08+ will be thankful to you for getting the bugs out for the rest of us

Welcome to the obsession! I'm curious why you'd want a MINI, already having an Elise, however. The MINI's a great car, no doubt, but it's not the track machine that the Lotus is. Now, maybe if you sold both the Bimmer and the Lotus and got just the MINI... :-)
The '06 is basically the last generation at the top of its game. The '07, while it will undoubtedly be an excellent car, too, is going to have some first-year issues. All cars do; I think it's just a fact of life. I don't think you can go wrong by getting an '06!

Welcome. I had the same choice to make and went with ordering an '06 (just picked up Friday). I was leary of first year teething problems with the '07 but I truly believe the turbo engine will end up being the better engine (about the same performance and better gas mileage). I know some folks are concerned about turbo lag but I doubt that it will be a very large issue in reality. I just couldn't bring myself to wait for an '08.

Thanks for the welcome. I should be tracking the Elise but I just can't bear to have it sand blasted on a track. Maybe I'll feel differently when it gets its first paint chip (It has less than 200 miles on it now. It is currently sleeping in the garage with a cover on).
It seems like most people here recommend getting the '06 rather than the '07 and they make a lot of good points. What I SHOULD do is keep the Bimmer and wait for the '08 but like rhawth99 I can't wait that long to get one.
