MINI of the Hamptons $500 shipping... experiences?
Hi, I've been talking with MINI of the Hamptons (MOTH) about getting a MINI delivered to L.A. They said that their $500 shipping special is still going on... Apparently it consists of uncovered truck to Chicago (from NY), where it's then transfered to an enclosed container and sent via train to L.A. (about 2-3 weeks total time). I'm a little worried about the uncovered part from NY to Chicago (especially with the winter weather)....
If anyone's ordered from them on the West coast and can share their experiences on the shipping, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Now don't start freaking me out now, I just ordered one from MOTH and I going to trust it gets here okay. I asked Jerry Halloran about what happens if it's not right when I get it? He said then you don't take delivery.

I ordered mine 2 years ago from MOTH and other than having to wash the car after I picked it up from the transport hub, there were no issues. My transport took place during March.

I just did this last month with MOTH. Found the exact car I wanted on their site, called them up, and it was on its way. I paid $500 for shipping. They quoted 2-3 weeks shipping time to AZ. It showed up in 1 week in perfect condition. The driver of the shipping company called me and delivered it to me at work. Very smooth and easy transaction, no issues with the shipping or condition of the car when it arrived. You will be pleased.
It's my understanding that one can pay an added fee to have the shipper, autolog, cover any and all damages that may be incurred during shipping. Without it, autolog only covers $500. Am I making this up? If not, does anyone know what this fee is and whether it's worth it or not?
My MCS was scheduled to be picked up from MOTH today. My MA, Jerry, faxed to me the autolog information; it showed that the estimated arrival time to me in Washington State is May 28th, which is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. UGH! This seems like an awfully long time. Is this timeframe typical for this type of delivery? Anyone? Anyone?
(And in case anyone cares, I did find out that autolog only cover $500 toward deductible...unless one pays an additional amount.)

I was quoted 2-3 weeks for shipping; it actually took about 4 weeks for it to arrive (finally picked it up last Friday!!).
Other than the delay, the car was fine -- just a bit dirty, but nothing a wash the next day didn't fix.
My only other complaint was that the pickup place was in San Bernadino (>1 hour from Los Angeles), but I guess it gave me a chance to add some miles to the break-in period...

I had a cooper s shipped from Mini of the Hamptons. I had to pick the car up in San Bernardino in a rail shipping depot. My car was dirty, and when I was driving home on the freeway I got a flat tire.
Apprarently the tire was almost flat, it had a bid gash in one tire, when I picked it up. I won't have a car shipped by freight again.

The shipping company (Autolog) has you go over the car to make sure there are no scratches, dings, etc. You sign off it on if you're happy with the condition, otherwise I assume they will cover repair of any damages. My car was fine... Paul's s, did you notice the gash when you looked it over? My advice is to take your time looking over everything and make sure you're happy with it before signing off on it.
For those currently with cars in shipping, you can call Autolog and pester them to find out where your car is currently. They called me about 1 week before it came, and the last few days I was calling them every morning. I even started my drive over to San Bernadino before getting confirmation it was off the train, as I really had wanted to pick it up before the weekend...
