Last chance for an '06

Greetings all, I am a new member to site, and I'm considering the purchase of a Mini sometime this summer (after current car is paid off). I was wondering when production of the current series was ending, as I wish to purchase an '06 generation Mini. (ie: will summertime be too late to get a special order '06?)
Thanks!

Welcome SilverSi.

I read over on Motoringfile.com that someone who works for MINI said that you better have your order in by May if you want an 06.

When I ordered last september the Portland dealership was already taking orders for 07's and had a waiting list of 15 people

It depends where you live. Stop by your local dealer - they'll be able to tell you their current numbers. Here in the midwest we might have more time to order an 06 then out west.

Also - find a recommendation here for an MA. If you're in the Chicago area, PM me, mine was great!!

Some dealers have 06's left over in the showroom.

Sterling Mini in Virginia has a bunch. Might want to check if anything at the dealers' meets your requirements.

I appreciate the feedback guys, however circumstances are conspiring to make me wait until after spring to make any significant financial commitments. Looks like I'll have to work with what's already available if and when the time comes...Who knows, it might actually be a softer market for the '06 models once they begin shipping '07's.

It probably depends upon spec.

If you're dead-set on custom ordering an '06 to get the exact spec. you want then you should order sooner rather than later and your negotiated discount will be less (yes, if you're ordering close to the new model launch I would expect a good discount even on the West Coast). If you're prepared to travel/buy from out of State that gives you a much better chance of securing a great deal.

If you're flexible on color/spec then I would wait 'til much later in '06 (the new design '07s are supposedly only reaching US shores in early '07) and buy from off the lot (again, you may have to do this from out of State to get the best deal).

No matter what the current supply-and-demand is, once the new '07 redesign hits dealer lots there will be bargains to be had on the outgoing model.

Talking to the MINI rep recently @ MINI of Richmond, I was told that you should be able to order through October of this year since the new '07's won't start to be built until November/December of this year.

Not sure if this is accurate. . . .they have to re-tool assembly lines and that usually takes at least a month.

I'm in the same boat and am looking to order in June/July ('06 model)--she said that it wouldn't be a problem. Maybe contact MINI USA to find out??

This is a good question. Mostly because I want cloth seats and will continue to wait if I have to. But I want an 06 as well.

Looks like patience and a willingness to compromise is the key to potential happiness (Mini motoring!) in this situation, as in many others
