I'll use this thread to join in and introduce myself also.
James, welcome! I too used to live in So. Lake Tahoe, CA (now in Northern Vermont for the last 10 years) and can fully acknowledge that indeed there are GREAT twisty roads up in the Sierra's - some of the best. BTW, I've raced the Virginia City Hillclimb back in '94 in my old Audi 4000S quattro, that was fun. Since I lived and worked so close to the hillclimb, practicing was a highlight. :-)
Anywho, my first name is Thompson and we've *just* ordered on Saturday 1.21.06 a R53 - first new car ordered since 1980! I'm coming over from driving many older Audi urquattos, Porsches (currently an early 944 and an Audi S6).
my R53 Specs
'06 CR MCS, WR
Black Leatherette
Anthracite
LSD
SPORT pkg
COLD pkg
Rear Fog
R85 rims (winter)
R90 rims (oh yaaah! Dunlop Sport Maxx's ?)
Aero front bumper/spoiler
White bonnet stripes
Checkered mirror caps
I'm an Art Director and naturally want more graphically. My wife loves the bonnet stripes but I really love the "Mini Challenge" German spec full race graphics and side checkered stripes. I'm thinking that a full Mini Challenge spec magnetic graphics package is in order. The next few months will be fun waiting, but will give us enough time for a proper name.
Cheers,
Thompson
ps Best Lake Tahoe Roads, IMHO
- Hwy 88 from Jackson, CA up to Kirkwood is FANTASTIC
- Hwy 50 over Spooner Summit from Carson, NV is good also at night in the summer
- The run from the bug station in So. Lake Tahoe to Kirkwood is good.
- Down to Markleeville is nice as well
- Can't forget 267 over to Truckee, CA
- 431 up to Mt. Rose
