NYC New Member saying hello
Hi,
I had the luck when young to know some enthusiasts who knew how to drive well and so I got to enjoy rides in some classics: Jaguar XKE, Lotus Elan, Mini-Cooper, Triumph - TR6 and TR7, MG, Austin-Healy, Fiat X1/9, Alfa Romeo Spyder, BMW 2002. Living in NYC for most of my life I never thought about owning a car. Now some changes are occuring and an auto is in my future. Research led me to MINI and to NAM .where I've already learned a lot reading the forums. Fun to be here and looking forward to learning more.

Or maybe future as in you're still considering other cars besides the MINI, and you'd like us to point out those cars' obvious shortcomings and fatal flaws?

Whichever it is - it's good to have you!

Thank you all...
..for being so welcoming. Future as in next year. I am 90% of the way toward finalizing on a MINI MCS but made a post in another forum about the one remaining contender - an Audi TT Quattro. Most of the replies were friendly but not informative; there was one though that was extremely useful and I'd say the TT is probably out. So barring unforseen events - in 2006 a MINI MCS. Thanks again for all the good wishes and welcome.

Let me tell you why...
I'll tell you (even though you did not ask
) why I chose an MCS. I like things that appear, at first blush, one way, but that at closer inspection appear different.
I like the idea that a MINI looks small but feels big. I like the idea that it looks cute, but has a serious power plant under the hood. I like the idea that status is not conveyed by how much I spent (too easy) but by something ineffable.
The TT looks too much like a speedster muscle car.
I like pugs, because they look like small dogs, but act like big dogs.
