'06 MCS on board the Otello!

I am anxiously awaiting my '06 MCS! Just checked the vehicle production status and found that it is completed and released to the carrier, Wallenius Wilhelmsen. I checked with the carrier's website and found that my MCS is schedule to be loaded onto The Otello, bound for New York City.

Hooo-ahhhhh!

Anyone else have a Mini travelling with mine?

OK, I would love to have my car travel with yours. Please help a newbie with detailed instructions on how to check this. When I talk with MINI they are not very detailed. And the OL site is, well, .....

BTW, when did yours come out of production?

Mine came out of production today - it's a bouncing baby girl. Have a cigar! Haven't decided on a name yet...

To check shipping status, go to:

http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/index.jsp

then pull down the Customer Centre menu and select Cargo Tracking.

On the Cargo Tracking page, click on Track by Auto Cargo.

Plug your VIN into the Cargo ID field and click the Track button. The website will display where your Mini currently is. (mine was just received at the terminal in Southampton 47 minutes ago). Take note of the Vessel and Voyage info.

Go back to the Customer Centre menu and select Schedules.

Select Search by Voyage under Schedule Options and plug in your Voyage info.

There's your shipping schedule!

Oh yeah, I forgot to put the details...

06 MCS PW/B (what's the abbreviation for bonnet stripes?)

No packages, just some a la carte options like roof rack, sunroof, HK stereo, multifunction steering wheel... Already ordered my Dension ICElink for the iPod and the Thule Kayak Stacker for the rack. She's gonna be a river goddess!!!

Looks like we are going to be shipmates. Red Ryder is also on Otello. Tell me about the rack that you ordered I have a couple of kayaks that I need to haul. The longest one is 18'.

I went with the factory rack. All the info I could find about racks seemed to indicate the MINI factory rack was the best available. I'm a whitewater kayaker, so I wasn't looking for a rack attachment that could handle a long boat. That's why I went with Thule's Kayak Stacker #830. I might be able to fit four whitewater boats up there if I'm lucky. Where the paddlers will fit is another matter.

BTW, one posting I saw indicated that if you remove the rubber strip from the MINI rack it will make it much quieter, and another posting confirmed that it made a big difference.

Another shipmate

Hello, all - this is my first post.

My DS MCSC will join your cars on the Otello. Completed production this morning and is booked for a Friday cruise! Mine will not get off the ship in NY, but continue on to Charleston.

I expect, knowing her owner-to-be, that she may cause a few problems on the trip...

Otello call sign?

Has anyone figure out the callsign for Otello?

I found one (SCFH) but a search on the marine tracking site shows her off the coast of Africa. The ww site says she should be coming from Germany. What's up?

Here's some information about this otello voyage:

Vessel: OTELLO
Voyage: EQ536-OTE

SOUTHAMPTON UNITED KINGDOM 08/09/2005

Our cars will be placed on this ship on Sept 8th. Any car that doesn't make it by this date will wait for the next ship.

Arriving in New York
NEW YORK, NY U.S.A. 17/09/2005

How long does it usually take from the New York port to your dealer?

Roof Rack

Hey all-
Just saw that a couple of you are gonna go with a roof rack. A buddy of mine and I are working on a custom adaptor for the factory roof rack. This will allow you to use Yakima style round bars rather than the OEM bars. As far as I know the factory bars only fit BMW/MINI accessories and not any Thule or Yak bike mounts or cargo boxes. Also you can then laod the rack to the 75 kile limit that the OEM towers allow rather than th 75 pounds Yak or the 110 pounds that Thule allows on their systems.

Should be pretty cool and should be an ergonomic boon over the OEM rack which I have been struggling with for some time.

Let me know if you have any interest. PM me

Joel

I may be interested in the refit, but first I want to live with what I have to see how well (or not) it works. One thing that may force me to stay with the factory bars is the fact that I already purchased the Thule kayak stacker, which I don't think will mount securely on the round Yakima bars.

Hey schulzmc, how do you track a ship at sea? I need another way to obsess on my mini's travels.

The Otello just pulled out of Southampton bound for Halifax, then on to New York, Baltimore and Charleston.

Whoa! Hold on Bwana. The ship has not left port, in fact according to the lastest it has been pushed out 30 minutes. The latest departure time is now 22:00 which is 5:00 EDT. Look at the departures on www.southamptonvts.co.uk/shipping_movements.asp

The QM2 left on time, and according to radar, is on the way out the NAB channel.

it is red on the cargo tracking page

I guess that means it has closed its doors and is ready to leave?

Otello set sail???

I guess Willenius Wihelmsen updated their status to indicate the ship was filled and ready to go? According to their site the ship has set sail. I guess I believe the port authority more than the shipper, so 5:00 pm Bon Voyage!

Come to me, my little mini....

Watch out Mama!! Da boat done left da show!!

Finally, Otello has left and making its way to the US. There looked like there was a 1 hour delay. Now all we have to concern ourselves with is hurrican Maria. I never thought I would be concerned with a huricane in the North Atlantic.

Missed?

Doh! It looks like I missed the boat, as the last message I have on the WW website is "received at terminal". Congrats to those who made it on the boat.

For those of you wondering what sort of tub your Mini is floating in right now, here's a link to the description of the Otello. I really MUST find something to take my mind off this...

Hey CP, I could have sworn that "Topper" was on the OTELLO, based on his sailing date and this thread of posts and arrival times. But I still could not get him or his ship to come up at W&W with his VIN. I emailed my MA today and he replied that Topper is on the INGOLSTADT, which is not on their fleet list. Still coming to Charleston, presumably next week. Does anyone else have their MINI on this ship? Has anyone heard of this ship? I hate to bug my MA again, but...

Bwana, Red Ryder, Funny thing, I'm gonna need a kayak rack too for a Chesapeake LT17, if I ever find the time to finish it with an MCS waiting to play. Should be quite a sight with a long, bright yellow kayak on a short little black car. Definitely will need a red flag on the stern.
