New Hyper Blue '05 MC owner

Hi Folks,

Relatively new New Mini owner here.
I previously had a 1997-spec Mini Cooper (classic mini), but decided that I wanted something a little more refined and less creaky.

So...
I put down an order for a Cooper in late March, and picked her up in early May. No options, just the HK stereo.

So far, the only mods are cosmetic - swapped out the bumper and grill with ones from an "S." Pasted on a pair of Outmotoring.com hood stripes. And just put on a set of 17" OZ Superleggeras (wish they were still made in Anthracite). The fender/wheel gap is a little large, but I'll live with it since there aren't any lowering springs available that provide both comfort and <1" of drop.

Felix

Hope you like!

I wanted to keep the price down a bit. Sure, I could have gone crazy and ordered $8000 worth of options, like some people do... But I'm not much of a "gadget" type of guy, and like my cars simple (and light-weight).
The simpler the better! I'd take manual windows and locks if they were still an option!

Haha! I never noticed that!
The Hyper Blue color is one of the reasons I decided to part with my classic Mini. It's almost a perfect match to my WRX!

Thanks for all the compliments!

Hi Felix,

Nice Mini! Did you notice a significant change in acceleration when you went from the stock rims to the heavier 17" rims? I've always heard that going to a heavier rim has a big effect on acceleration and handling, but your rims look so good I'm thinking of getting a set!

I didn't get many options on my cooper (sunroof since i was giving up a convertible for it, my favorite 16" wheels, and spoiler, it looks so nakie without it). I'd rather cut the cost and enjoy the car i wanted for so long, even if it is "simple" Heck, i cut the cost by alot just by getting a cooper :P

I can't tell much if there's much of an appreciable difference in performance with the heavier wheels.
The Superleggeras are the lightest wheels that I could find in this style (too bad the BBS RGR's are waaay too pricey), and if there is a hit on acceleration and handling performance, I haven't noticed it. The 17" Superleggeras are very close to the same weight as the stock 15" wheels, with the total wheel weight being slightly greater due to wider tires.

My only major problem with these wheels is that Tirerack only carries them with offset of ET37, which is way off the recommended offset of 40-45. Oh well, they look so good!

Felix

Yeah, I had a case of "mine's bigger than yours" syndrome and put that on there so that nobody will mistake my Mini for a "chick" car. J/K
