Had a 05 MCC since sept 9, time to say hi

Howdy

apparently, its appropriate to say hi here, so, hi.

I picked up my 05 MCC from hassel mini in long island on sept 9, 04. I've got 3.6K miles on it, and am currently working to integrate a computer output on my nav screen (to watch movies, as an mp3 juke, and a wireless signal finder/exploiter) for when i'm on long trips.
Getting my first oil change next wednesday. $83. Also bringing it in because i got a letter in the mail from mini HQ stating that my transmission fluid (5 speed) *might* be low. The dealer had not heard of this! anyone else get this?

I've got one major annoying rattle, coming from the convertible top, driver's side, somewhere right above and behind my head. otherwise, things are going well. Getting a solid 27mpg (according to the computer) on my stop-and-go commute to work, somewhere around 40 when cruzing at 65 on highways.

Anyone able to offer any advice about my rattle/nav upgrade, i'd appreciate. I've got a post in the nav/audio section asking for help on the screen, but i don't know where to ask about the rattle.
thanks!

-eric

Welcome to NAM, Eric. Can't help you with the rattle..I have the hatchback! Keep reading the forums and you'll find help!

The first MINI oil change is typically not until 10K miles, theworks. Depending upon how you drive, the prompter may tell you sooner, or if you do lots of highway miles like I do, it may come on as late as 13K+ miles. Eric is probably getting an interim oil change, which is at his expense, as it is unscheduled.

You're going to be watching movies on your nav screen while on long trips? Good thing you're on the opposite end of the country from me....

I've did the same- paid for my own oil change at around 7000 miles, probably won't make it in for the first scheduled maintanence until 11K....and that's just too darn long to go!

Welcome Eric....hope you find your the source of your rattle!

Good tip about the seatbelt - if only just for safety. Recently saw a 5th Gear where they demonstrated what can happen in an accident with items becoming projectiles inside the car. Having the seat belts buckled in the rear seemed to prevent the rear seat from folding and having anything in the trunk come flying out.

It does help with the seatbelt noises too if you drive with the windows open

Hey

i should have mentioned that i have the seatbelts tied up, they are not the source of my rattle (well, they were the source of other rattles, which i found, and dealt with by plugging them in all the time).

I am getting my oil changed at 3.6k miles, which costs me money, because, well, i think its good policy to change oil on a new engine early. Call me paranoid, but since mini doesn't use "break in oil", it can't do any harm. MY bike actually reccomended an oil change at 500 miles. Sure that's different, but still.

The watching of movies while driving just isn't that hard. It isn't like i'm going to be staring at the screen, it'll just be in the corner of my vision.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll post information when i find out how to deal with this nav screen idea.

Perhaps you should have purchased a more entertaining car!
