Broken cam

Hi so I bought my 04 mini base model with a broken cam...I had a local mechanic put new valves seals and a used cam in it... im approaching 7000 miles on it and now the can has broken again..... anyone have this issue what's best way to resolve it any one no why it broke no other issues wit car thanks in advance

I don't know much about the R53 Motor but on the R56 with the N14 and N18 the vacuum pump has a nasty habit of eating cams if it locks up. Other than that I'd look into the timing chain and tensioner. Was that replaced when new used cam was installed? It really should have been.

Yes timing chain and new head gasket was installed at the time also valve seals ...... only thing I can think of is was over heated at sone point and it warped the head?.....I guess im going to be finding a motor to have installed....


Sheared clean off both cams broke in same spot
