What is this light?

Almost 4 years and I just noticed this yesterday. Some kind of light/indicator on the top of the steering wheel column. What is its purpose? I tried to look on the owner's manual but wouldn't even know what to look under! Thanks in advance.

Yup, it's the indicator for the alarm system. When locked that light should slowly brighten and dim.

Yep, when you have the alarm it turns on, no factory alarm, no blinky.

Is the factory alarm something that can be coded on a 2011 Cooper S or do you have to add components and code to get it to work?

Ah, thank you! Mine has no alarm, so that's why no blinky. Mystery solved!
