New Mini owner from Omaha NE
Just got a black 2008 Mini Cooper hatchback. Unfortunately it broke a timing chain guide? the third week I’ve owned it. I came here in need of direction. Mini dealership wants ~$4k to fix it. Essentially putting a new timing chain on it. Any suggestions would be great. The car is in awesome shape with 46k miles. I really enjoyed those 3 weeks and I hope to have more but I am considering cutting my loses.

Not sure why it would cost $4,000 to replace a timing chain unless it jumped a sprocket and caused additional damage. I would look for an independent shop (not a dealership) and get a second estimate. Conversely, it's not that difficult to change the chain/guides. You could easily do it yourself. There's plenty of help on this forum.

Welcome to the forum. While I am not an expert, the price sounds way out of line to me. Don't "cut your losses" until you have more information. Others will more knowledge will follow.
I hope you stick around after you get your current troubles sorted out. Also, when you get a chance, post some pictures of your MINI.

Not sure what you're asking here. www.partsgeek.com is a good, inexpensive source for MINI parts. If all you need are chain guides, they run around $22 each. Or, you can buy a complete replacement kit including chain, tensioner, guides, etc. for around $150. You may actually only need a chain tensioner (hydraulically holds the guide against the chain). If the tensioner fails the chain will slap against the guide and eventually break it. If you want to PM your email address, I'll send you a PDF of the relevant portion of the Bentley repair manual.
