New Member... 2016 JCW....Question About Production Figures

Hey guys, Im new here, not sure how active I will be but I had a question about JCW production numbers. I just bought a 2016 JCW to be my daily driver today. Funny story how this all came to be, I actually only had 2 cars a 2002 Ferrari 575 and a 2006 Mercedes SLR. I live in Miami Beach and work mostly from home so I never really needed a "daily driver" bc my annual mileage total is below 2500 miles but I just spent 2 weeks waiting on a clutch position sensor for my Ferrari to come in and the wife and I fought over our 1 remaining car so I told myself I needed a regular car. Our Ferrari came back yesterday and this morning we went by the BMW dealer today fully intent on getting just a 3 series bc we only have 2 parking spots at our condo and this 3rd car would have to be parked on the street. I dont know how this came to be but I saw a john cooper works in the corner and I said forget the 3 series, I have to have that. It's a 2016 with 27k miles. It was the only JCW the dealer had used, they had hundreds of minis and 1 used JCW.

I guess you can't make a car nut buy a normal car, btw the JCW is AWESOME, it drives great I only drove 20 miles or so in it today, by the time I finished everything it was maybe 4 pm and the traffic was bad, plan on a nice trip in it this weekend. Here are some pics of my other cars and then today you can see the 575 and the JCW when we bought it. My instagram is dnm814 if you want to reach me, Id love to meet up with some other cooper guys in miami sometime.

Would love some info on production figures of all JCW and 2016 specifically, im sure there aren't tons but still would like to know.

I feel your pain. Do you buy just a 3 series that would be ok parked outside or a great car like a Cooper JCW that deserves to be kept in a climate controlled garage. A car guy has to go with the JCW.

I suspect that if you can take your new MINI on some winding roads over the weekend, you will decide that you don't need all three and the MINI can come inside.

I look forward to a review after you get a chance to put some miles on the MINI comparing your three driving options.

Ha! It would come inside if I had room but I just don't. I got to drive it on a nice open road this morning back to the dealer to repair the rims like we agreed when I bought it and let me tell you, the JCW is a blast to drive on the open road. Honestly, one of the best put together cars I've ever driven. The Ferrari and the SLR are amazing cars but both are different. To me the 575 is the ultimate car bc it combines speed with comfort, the SLR is harsh, its a full blown race car. The JCW has a superb sound system, it handles like a dream, and the exhaust is really nice. I don't know much about these cars but I've always liked them and if this is the ultimate mini then job well done, the car is fantastic. My only fear is "safety" if god forbid we were in a wreck but I've read alot and they seem very safe. In terms of performance it may not be the quickest car I own but its alot of fun. I didn't want to purchase a car when I set out yesterday, I wanted to lease just bc I hate dealing with trade ins and all the games and leasing is easier for me unless I have a rare car thats easy to sell. So BMW was offering really great leases on the 3 series and that's what I was planning on getting my wife, then while running the numbers out of the corner of my eye I saw a couple minis and we walked over to look at them and there was 1 JCW. I asked the sales rep if we could drive it and within 20 minutes I decided it was the perfect car. The 3 series had no soul, the JCW is full of it. Price wise I dont know if I paid a good or bad price, $24.5K for a 27k mile 2016, with taxes, fees, extended warranty was $29k out the door but it really seems like an incredible car in that range. All things considered, the mileage it gets per gallon relative to the fun it provides, its a great great value in the mid 20s.

I've read how brand new ones could be had for $38k sticker and with rebates down to $32k or so but they didn't have any in stock only $50k+ bigger coopers and I wanted the coupe so this was the only one. Here it is outside in its spot!

Hi and welcome to the NAM adventure!
Congrats on your 2016 MCS JCW model. I am sure you will learn why these cars are getting so popular! Legal for the road Go cart! These make great dailies!

I will take accident avoidance in a small car over an SUV that protects you when you get hit because you couldn't get out of the way.

I don't know how rare the JCW is and I don't know how limited production will impact future values. Unfortunately, they are now making fewer of all makes of small cars since people are buying more SUVs. Value is based on supply and demand. If supply goes down faster than demand, prices will go up. I suspect, however, demand will go down faster than supply.

Bottom line, I will buy what I want to drive and plan to keep it long enough that depreciation is not a huge factor.

Im not asking for depreciation purposes, Im just interested in knowing if this is a "rare" car or not. I know its not my 575 of which theres less than 600 in the US or my SLR which is also 1 of a few hundred in the US. Just yesterday at the dealer they had tons of minis but maybe 4 JCW, 2 were convertible coupes, new, around $44-46k and then 1 4 door car it was $51k.....this was the only used one. I was just curious if its a rare car or the dealer just happened to not have any in stock. I've admittedly never driven a regular cooper or cooper S, but the JCW is an awesome car.

Welcome to NAM.

IMO the only MINIs that are rare are the Gen1 GPs.
