Hello, name is Ken McKay and I just recently purchased a 2002 Cooper S R53. I've had the car for about two weeks now and am starting to figure out what needs to be fixed/repaired before I start upgrading other components. Wondering if there are any good groups of Minis in the southeast Michigan area. Would love to get to some gatherings and meet some new folks. I will get some photos posted of my car later today. Thanks everyone!
Hi and welcome to NAM!
Congrtas on your 2002 MCS!
If you go to the Gen 1 area here, you will find tons of information to get you car to the place you want! This is te best site in the world for keeping ahead on your Mini!
Here are a few of the photos I’ve taken of my R53 in the first couple weeks of owning it!
She isn’t in the best shape now, the previous owner neglected to do quite a bit of maintenance over the last three years. But that’s where I’m stepping in to help bring this little bundle of joy back to life.
For starters I am ordering all new Koni Yellow struts, H&R springs, strut mounts, power flex bushings to cover the whole subframe, new factory front sway bar, new MSD coil pack/wires, NGK spark plugs, and probably an ATI crankshaft pulley(+2%). It’s a bigger list than that that needs to be cared for, but starting with the more important items. Updates will come along as I complete the work here in the next couple weeks.
Definitely a nice Mini and one that's very lucky to have found someone to step in and give it the proper maintenance it was not granted. A great find. Keep us up on the progress. Thanks for posting those pics, too. We're all fans on this forum!
