New mini owner from Portland, OR area

Hi everyone! I picked up a 2006 R53 in late September with 70k mi. I love it! Just installed DDM CAI, 17% pulley, and a short shifter. I’m looking forward to getting some help and giving some advise as I learn! I actually live north of Amboy, WA and get to drive 35miles each way to work on winding back country roads! It’s a race to work every day!

Welcome to NAM.

You are now a member of an enlightened group of individuals that recognize what a great handling car the MINI is. With some mods, the car becomes an even better handling and performing car.

Thanks everyone! This car is a total blast! The handling is excellent and I am excited to start going through some mods there once I have the engine pulling as hard as I would like it to!

Welcome!

btw - why do people north of Vancouver say Portland area? Vancouver seems nice enough to warrant a mention.

Well.... I am 50 minutes North of Vancouver so I debated that but then there's the whole thing of Vancouver Canada? No Vancouver, WA, where's that? People seem to know where Portland, OR is but a lot don't know where Vancouver is. I like Vancouver WAY more the Portland for a lot of reasons but this isn't the forum for that!

Hi and welcome to the NAM family!
Jerry, Don't loose site, why these cars exist! Handling the twisties! Too much power can rob the handling, so, if you want more power, you will need to improve handling first, otherwise you could be going straight down, instead of following the twisties. Look into the correct tires, wheels( light weight), rear sway bar, shocks, springs etc.
I am in southern Oregon and live in the twistie land. They are just so much fun and it is rare for many cars to keep up with my normal driving!
Enjoy it, but keep the wheels on the ground!
The 06 is my favorite year and arguable, the best Gen 1 produced and with the rock solid supercharged engine! Congrats on your purchase!
Now post up some pics of this monster!
