New MINI owner in Portland, OR

Hey guys!

Been researching for a couple of months (love NAM, Motoringfile and WhiteRoofRadio), put my deposit down and FINALLY got my R56S last Tuesday. Well, we had our first non-rainy day here in Portland, so I had a chance to take some pics. Man, I love this car. Long time SUV owner, and zipping around is awesome. I look forward to driving to work every morning.

Last weekend I took a pretty rad drive out to the rural town of Newberg. Lots of farms and vineyards... oh and turns. Lots of turns. Here's a map to the drive.

Drive to Newberg

Anyone else have some recommended drives around here in Oregon?

Here's what I got. Eclipse Grey, 2011 MCS, Black 6-Star Spoke, Black Sport Stripes, Black Roof, 35% tint, Leatherette, Premium, Cold Weather, Convenience packages.

First mods planned, adding in armrest, adding iPad mount. Was bummed I couldn't get Mini Connected in time, but I think a lot of the apps I've found for my iPad will actually be better in the long run than Mini Connected.

Thanks everyone for all their help asking and answering all the questions on the board. Really helped in making my decision.

Nice ride This is what my R56S would of looked like (same wheels, but I had xenon lights) but I called last minute and changed my color to chili red hahaha, but it looks awesome in the eclipse grey, it fits Portland (I lived there up until this June), but I think for the extremely long fall/winters a color would have saved my winter blues! The tint looks great too

Thanks guys! Can't wait to take it out this weekend on a drive!

@torri91 moved from PDX to HI, nice move I love Portland, I think I'd love Hawaii even more. Wanted the Black Xenons, alas, it was not to be.

Also from Portland here. Parents live up Ladd hill I think it's called in Sherwood now. Anyway, I suggest Petes mtn road or just going around mount hood or down the coast. ^we always went through Newberg for that drive.

Welcome! Lots of MINI owners in Portland and most of us will give you a wave when we pass on the road. When I first got my 03' I had great fun just pointing it towards the hills and seeing where it took me.

I was looking at ordering those same wheels on a PW MCS 2011. Could you tell me if they are a gloss black or more of a matte black? They look kinda matte finish in the pictures.

There's always the Old Gorge Highway, i've always enjoyed a ride down that road (mostly when there isn't much traffic, though). We're planning on moving back to Portland in the very near future, we miss it very much. Hope to see ya around!

Hi, so I am awaiting the arrival of my 1st Mini (2010 MCS), should be here later this week, and am interested in joining the pdx mini club. I've been driving a 1969 VW Karmann Ghia for the last 15 years and know the value of knowing people to ask about trusted mechanics, body shops, etc. I imagine being a part of this club will be a great benefit to this new Mini owner. Any advice? Thanks, Paul

Congratulations on the new MINI! I have a 2010 Cooper S as well. I am also a member of the PDXMINI Club. It's great fun and there are some quite knowledgeable people in the club. We have a club website at http://www.pdxmini.com. The driving events are pretty much done for the season but we will probably be having some meetups over the next couple months. Hope to see you at some of the club events!

Congrats on the new MCS looks great!
Just ordered my clubman S and I can't wait!

Btw, as for the wheel color, they look like the anthracite ones, which seems to be a custom (aftermarket) color. I think those wheels only came in tow colors; gloss black and silver (correct me if im wrong)
