Error Code (126 & 138) for Foglights that do not exist.

I have a 2010 Mini Cooper that I've finally got around to replacing Fog Light Bulbs. I've never replaced any Bulbs to date until now. I've had the Dash Symbol for quite awhile but just pulled the codes yesterday. The Codes were displayed as CC-ID 126 and CC-ID 138. I went to the Auto Parts Store and got the appropriate H8 Foglight Bulb. I checked the Owner's Manual for directions to change the Bulb. I also watched a Video on YouTube on replacement.

This morning I went to change the Foglight Bulbs oniy to discovered my Base Model Mini doesn't have any. It only has the Running/Parking Light. The lower part of the light housing is totally void (empty) of any Foglight or attachment there of. So why am I being told to replace something on my car that was never installed on it from the factory? And how do I get rid of these two false error codes. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Absolutely every outside running light is working. And the Codes of 126 and 138 are suppose to be only for Foglghts.

What is the condition of your battery? A bad battery can trigger all sorts of electronic gnomes!

Might want to read https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...solutions.html and similar threads, could be that module going bad. Beyond that no idea.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever get a resolution to this? I have the same issue but haven’t been able to find anyone else that had the same problem without fog lights.

I don't know if this will be of assistance but I'm passing this information along. These where apparently "Ghost" codes for my, and seemingly your, situation. I disconnected the battery a few times. I also used my Code Reader to erase the two false codes as well. I did this over the period of a few weeks. I don't know that anything I did actually fixed the problem. All I can say is that eventually the "Ghost" Codes disappeared. And they haven't come back now for several months. I hope this helps you. It is all I have to offer.

There are two bulbs above your rear license plate. I burnt one out while washing my car in a carwash. Easy to replace but hard to diagnose as the issue during the day since these lights are pretty dim.
