I have recently been asked to sell my mother-in-law's F56 Cooper S. I'm a car guy, a regular on some forums, good with tools, reasonably awful with cameras, and completely unfamiliar with MINIs. So, I'll have a slew of bad pics and some questions (at the bottom of the post) for you, after which the car my MIL affectionately (despite having driven it a whopping 241 miles since she bought it) calls "snow" will be listed for sale.
.
Here it is when I brought it to my garage:
.
Here it is next to my wife's A4:
.
The obligatory engine bay shot:
Some other stuff I thought was cool, having never been within 6ft of a MINI...
I'll add some more in a bit.
QUESTIONS:
1) This is an F56, yes?
2) I've heard there is a point at which they went from a Peugeot to a BMW engine. When was that?
3) My MIL told me she had the seats swapped and the stripe added when she got it from the dealership. I think the seats were black before and I assume powered... What's the deal with these ones? They're very comfy and surprisingly bolstered but also manual... Is this a common mod or just an option the dealer did instead of ordering her a car?
4) As I mentioned, my ultimate goal is a competent for sale ad. Are feeler ad's cool here? I have no idea how to price it otherwise.
I'll add more to this post later but thanks for making it all the way to the end! In VW/Audi forum land I'd have lost 3/4 of the readers by this point.
First, welcome to NAM. Second, try posting in the F56 section (yes, it's an F56) HERE to get a better response to your questions. When you're read to post it for sale, put it up in the marketplace HERE. Good luck with the sale!
Take it to Carmax as well as the dealer. Portland I assume? Then you have an idea of the floor price. The white seats are a no go for me, they get dirty just looking at them. Best of luck with sale. MA at Portland Mini told me of all these low mileage Minis, I didn't believe him then. Lol

Indeed, it was Portland MINI. My MIL bought it new in Aug of 14 with 7 miles, then it sat in her garage ever since. I think she drove it three times. With the exception of the odd seat choice it is absolutely perfect in terms of condition.
2.) The 2-door Hardtops switched to BMW engines in MY2014.
3.) Looks like custom seat upholstering, NOT factory seats. The dealer probably outsources this to a local shop. My local dealer does the same with window tinting and sometimes custom graphics on their new cars for sale.
MINI has never offered power seats until the 2015 F54 Clubman and it is still the only model that does and a $1250 option at that.

I posted the seat pics in another thread as well and someone spotted the "Katskins" label on one of the covers, so that mystery has been solved. You're totally right though, and thanks for being the one who's answered the most of my questions! Buy yourself a beer and pretend it's from me.

She's had it a while (Aug of 2014) and totally loves it but doesn't want to keep a depreciating car that she almost never drives.
Man talk about depreciation, it is going to be a lot. I'm guessing MIL fell out of love. Divorce costs money so will selling a new car. I hope it doesn't hurt too much financially.

Yeah, she paid $35k including the seat mod, and the dealer told her $21k to take it back a couple weeks ago. Based on my research over the last week I think I'll list at $26k to keep the tire kickers away and take the first reasonable offer.
Such a nice F56. Interior with white seats looks very good. Too bad your mother in law doesn't drive it. Financial hit will be significant unfortunately, but by the way this Mini shows in the pictures you took, it should sell. Especially at that reasonable price with under 300 miles on the ODO. It is practically new, after all.
I would also list it on cars dot com and cargurus dot com. I've used those sites more than one time, and should expand your market by quite a bit.
Your picture taking abilities are not bad at all. The one of the side of the Mini with what looks to be Mt. Hood in the distance is my favorite...
