New MINI Countryman in Houston

Hello all!

I just purchased my 2016 Countryman S four days ago. I think I'm falling in love. I've wanted a MINI for many years. Now was the right time. I purchased the larger MINI bc I have a greyhound that needs to be able to stand in the back.
I look forward to learning more about my car and posting questions here in the forum. You all seem very knowledgeable.
Have an awesome day!!!
Lisa

Welcome to NAM, Lisa! Congratulations on your purchase. I'd love to see a picture of your Greyhound in or even next to your CM! I love big dogs. They're great. Enjoy your new ride!

We are considering getting a Countryman and I'm interested in hearing what you think. How does your dog fit in the back? We have a large lab and he would need to be back there comfortably. What kind of mileage do you get? Any other thoughts?

This would be my first Mini after owning Japanese cars for the past 25 years.

Sorry for the delayed response.....

I've always owned Japanese as well:
'88 Nissan Sentra
'95 Mazda 626
'01 Mazda Tribute (still have)
'05 Toyota 4Runner
'14 Infiniti Q50 (traded for R60s)

I intentionally chose the Countryman b/c of the four doors and rear seat height for easy entry and comfort for my Greyhound (Gus). The seats are, however, shallow. He curls his legs in so it hasn't been a problem, but with a dog the width of yours he may slide onto the floor if you suddenly stop. I saw a special cushion (i think on Amazon) that fits between the front and rear seats that keeps dogs from falling to floor. I'm going to purchase one in the future.

As for the car itself.... i LOVE it!!!!!!! It's not as smooth or luxurious as the high end Japanese cars, but that's not what a MINI is. It's built for fun, handling and pep. Definitely get the "S" if you want decent pick-up.

I hope you get a Countryman, but read around the site re: it's "issues". Mine has been awesome, so far.

Keep Motoring,
Lisa
