Hi everyone, i have thinking about a used mini now for over a year, and i have done alot of reading up on them. I found a 2006 MCS with only 26,ooo miles on it one owner! They are asking 11,900 for it, does this sound too high for a like new 2006 mini?? Also from what i read 2006 is the best yeaR for the first gen, if i were to buy it with 26,000 miles on it, would you expect any problems for lets say like the next 40-50 thousand miles? Thanks in advance for the advice and opinions, i hope to be a owner soon!!

 

That is really low miles, but still seems like a high price from what I've seen. There's a 60K mile one kicking around on Cars.com that the seller isn't getting the $9,500 they're asking. It seems when the '05-'06 are priced over $8,500 they don't move fast. I haven't seen one with that few miles, though.

 

A basic S that is in excellent condition should sell around $7650.00 ...

...but with all the options it can go up as high as $11550.00.

So I would guess it has the HK sound, the Panoramic Roof, Leather, Premium Wheels and Tires and possibly the JCW performance kit added to it.

If it has all those goodies then it could very well be worth they are asking.

If in Excellent Condition.

Here is a link to the first gen buyer's guide on Motoring File. It's worth a read. If your prospective car is not at a MINI dealer, I'd take it there (or to an independent shop experienced with MINI/BMW/Euro cars) for a pre-purchase inspection. IMHO it's $150'ish well-spent.

Low miles does not necessarily mean you have X number of trouble-free miles ahead. I bought my '06 in 2010 with under 30K on it. In the past year + I had the clutch replaced, and two coolant reservoir tanks in addition to a few other things. Don't get me wrong: the R53 is a fantastic car and tons of fun, but MINIs are not Hondas or Toyotas. And when things go wrong, repairs (unless you DIY) can be on the spendy side.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! Yes the reliability is the main thing that worries me because it will be my daily driver. Another thing is that i fly RC model airplanes and i dont think they will fit in the car. It looks like it has alot of options, but no leather or JCW kit. Oh and yes i did read that minis buyers guide several times! thats where they recommend either a 05 or 06. Man i dont know what to do, guess i better go drive it! I dont think its going anywhere fast though, its been there a few weeks.........

Looks to be in pretty good condition and those miles are very low. Also, try checking out truecar.com for pricing. I usually use that and compare pricing on cars.com, craigs list, etc. Has it been sitting for a while, hence the low miles? If so I'd check belts, seals, etc. I'd give it a drive and if you can get it checked over by a MINI specialist for possible needed repairs, if you can. Good luck!

 

Thanks for the replies, i guess i need to get out and drive it then make a decision. One thing that makes me feel better is that a friend of mine owns a shop that works on mini and has the computer to hook them up to, even so i guess buying a warranty for it would be a good idea right?

 

That's a definite plus if you have a friend that owns a MINI shop. Buying a MINI with a warranty is not a bad idea.
