New MCS onwer with a Panoramic Roof Problem

Hi everyone, I've been on here for a while just reading around and hangingout pretty much, always wanted a Mini, finally got one. I purchased a 2006 MiniCooper S with 69K on it back in November; I haven't had a single problem withit until this morning. It’s starting to get nice in the NEPA area and I'vestarted opening my sunroof more, it makes a lot of weird grinding noises whileits opening and yesterday it started having trouble closing. It would start toclose and then slide back open and I'd have to hold the button. Now if I try toclose it while I'm actually driving it starts and stops and won't do anything. This morning I actually had to get out of the car while holding the button andpush is closed. Still with a lot of grinding noise and vibration. Has anyoneencountered this problem or heard of it? Any feedback would be beyond helpful!

Cheers

Welcome aboard. This is a common issue and your dealer might need to put in a new cartridge and/or adjust the tracks. Make sure there is no debris in the tracks also. Do you have a warranty on it? Good luck. Post some pics of your MINI.

I did get a warranty on it. I'll have to take a look at the tracks later today, hopefully it's just a track I could do that myself. I'm not sure what you mean by a new cartridge though. I'll definitely be getting pictures up soon.

Thank you Braminator, this is the first time I've been on any forum where I haven't just got "google it" as an answer lol.

You are welcome. I am not one of those who usually says that. I personally think it is easier sometimes to ask and have some answer it. So that is why I try to help instead of point to Google.

So I cleaned the tracks, put a little WD-40 on them, and boom like a brand new sunroof!!

Good to hear it is working again...
I suggest you get some GOOD GREASE...and add a SMALL AMOUNT.
WD-40 will evoprate, and leave it pretty dry..but is good as a solvent to clean stuff with.
The OEM/MINI grease is kinda special..I have not heard of anybody finding the exact stuff, but a bit of a red/blue grease (both are water resistant) should work wonders!! Remember, just dab...too much will attract dirt!!
You can buy a big cardboard tube at the auto store/wallyworld, then just take a dab out with you finger...and leave the rest for use later...works good on door latches, hinges, etc.

I actually have some. The dealer sold it to me; it was not cheap; and the container cautions that it is extremely toxic.

ZippyNH: I'll have to pick some grease up after work today, thanks for the tips on just a dab, I have a tendency to feel like I'm not using enough sometimes.

Jab 67: I already have a few health problems, I'll have to stay away from the OEM grease haha.

I'll definitely keep motoring, I'm nothing but smiles in my MINI!
