I actually joined up back in '08 when my wife and I were thinking of getting a Mini. 4 years later and we just we pulled the trigger on a '12 hatchback, which I'll be picking up tomorrow. My wife is jealous I get to drive it around LA for the weekend and then up to SF

Congrats man! Did you splurge and go for the S or decide gas mileage is more important?

Actually we went for the non S, which was an economic decision driven by my wife wanting to keep the lease payments down on a 2nd car. A decision I fought initially, but I think I'm OK with it. I'm a pretty aggressive driver, but I've always been more in the carry speed through corners camp, than the mash the accelerator on the straight camp, and I wasn't really hooking up with the initial turbo lag I experienced when powering out of a corner. The non-S has a little less power, but it is more linear feeling to me. If it was just me, I'd probably have gone for the S (Actually, I'd probably have gone for a Cayman)
I am planning on adding some 17 inch wheels and maybe an exhaust.
