2012 or wait for 2013

Hi, new to the forums

I have an '06 MC I bought used four years ago, and now I want to buy a brand spanking new one. So the question is buy the 2012 or wait for the 2013s. It does not appear that there will be many significant changes to the 2013. Is it likely a diesel version will be released within the next couple of years?

i hear the 2014s will have flux capacitors, 500 wheel horsepower and get 2300 mpg

jk

if you are ready to buy new now, then do it

there will always be new, better, different in the future ... it is a fact of life

my last car i bought in dec 1996 and drove it until mar 2012 when i got my mini, there were LOTS of "new, better, different" changes since then, but i have no regret at all

There could be... there might be... maybe not. If you want to wait, then wait. I'm going to enjoy my new Mini that is due in two weeks.

Depends on your circumstances. If you can afford to wait and just want one off the dealer's lot and want the best deal, I would recommend waiting until the 2013's are out and buy a left over 2012. Are going to order? Do you need the car now, or can you wait? Do you want a JCW with automatic...that would mean waiting until 2013. If the car you want can be obtained now then I would order or buy now.

In 2013 or 2014, yes MINI is coming out with JCW automatics and also Diesel MINI's. It should be very interesting. Also they will take away the Coupe's two years from now, but they said depends on sale prices on them. So I definitely will have to get my hands on a JCW Coupe!!!

I would order one if the dealer doesn't have a chili red with blk bonnet stripes and the options I want.

The JCW with automatic would be sweet. I am considering getting an automatic S b/c I have a bad left knee. Switching to automatic is not an easy decision for me, but knee pain detracts from the driving experience.

I don't "need" one. My '06 is fine so I really can wait, if I buy now it would just be because I am impatient.

Hmmmm.....if either the JCW auto or a diesel were available now it would be a no brainer. I guess that means I should wait.

I am going to the dealer tonight to test drive an automatic S, I'll see if they have concrete info.

sounds like you are going to order. not sure you can still order a 2012, so you may not have a choice. i think, either way, you should get into a 2013. your deal on an ordered car is likely the same whether it is 2012 (assuming they are still taking orders) or it is a 2013. no matter what, get the car you want- do not settle for almost like you want. get exactly what you want.

Thanks for the input, I completely agree. My last MC was used so this time I really want to pick exactly what I want Production for the 2013 starts in June so I will wait till then to order.

i had to make the same decision. i decided to just pull the trigger already and order the '12. hopefully, if the planets align, i'll be getting it next week!

if you're worried about the completely new model, i pasted a link to the 2014 spy shots over on the "MINI General" forum so you could have a look. 2013 MY looks to be the same, probably some new colors, interiors, and editions, as most automakers do to spur sales towards the end of a production run. i would guesstimate that the 2014's, as seen on the spy shots, would start being sold in august 2013.

patience is a virtue and i'm not too patient.
