Stripes?

Hi! I have had my 06' Mini for almost a year now...I had put it away for the winter and boy did I miss it! I am thinking about replacing the stripes that came on the car when I bought it...I like them, but they are a bit dull and was wondering how hard it is to take them off and put new ones on? They also say Alta on them...and people always ask me what that means (I learned they are an after market distributor) I also have a dealers tag on it, and would like to get that off...someone told me to put a hair dryer to it. Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Where are some places to get them?
I am very handy, so Im not too worried about it, but wanted some advice from veteran Mini owners. Thanks so much in advance

The stripes are just vinyl. Warm them up by sitting the car in the sun on a warm day or give a little help with a blow dryer. The dealer thing should come off in a similar manner, but you may need something to get some leverage underneath it. Try fishing line or a flat piece of plastic. Main thing is to take your time and be careful about what you use so you don't damage the paint. Once off you may need to use something to get glue residue off. E.g. Goo Gone, lighter fluid, etc.

I was taught to prep the paint for the new stripes by getting the wax off. Good claying probably wouldn't hurt.

And measure about 3 or 4 times, then cut.

Good luck!

A hair dryer or heat gun works great on vinyl.
If using a heat gun (higher heat) it works fast so don't leave it on
in one spot. Use with short sweeping motion. Grab a corner of the stripe or decal and slowly pull.
It'll peel right off.
I just removed mine the other day as well as the Cooper S emblem on the
boot lid. That left a glue residue so I used some googone to remove the
rest of it. Can't tell now.

first and foremost, Do you have a clear bra?!

If you say yes, you need to make sure the stripes are on top of the bra, NOT under. If they are under the Bra, you're better off leaving them, unless you spend a pretty penny to remove the clear bra, which can inadvertently lead to more issues.

If there is no clear bra all together... I would shoot you towards Aesthetic Creations, great guy and he's done work for me in the past. Wide selection of material.

Blckmorning is so CORRECT. I didn't even think of the car possibly having a clear bra. There's been lots of posts on removing stripes and I believe Blck is the first I've seen mention the clear bra.
I'll have to remember that in the futire.

Good catch man.
