Hi there, my name is Jen and last night I traded my Hummer H3 (had it for almost 6 years) in for a 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible. I got everything that I wanted except for the S part...had to stay on budget.
I am looking forward to learning more about MINIs and possibly customizing a few things on it.
Can someone explain what the R numbers mean? I have seem them a few times, but not sure exactly what they mean and what mine might be.

Ok...I just saw the cheat sheet...I think I am an R52, MCc with the color CoB.
Is that right? lol

Welcome to the club!
I bet you'll be loving the gas savings right away! MINI drivers are generally less maligned than Hummer drivers, too
Plenty of Non-S owners on here lovin' their rides. A handful of mods and I like mine better than several stock turbocharged and supercharged S models I test drove.
Not sure about the numbers for the Cabrio models, so here's a cut and paste from Wikipedia:
R50: "Mk I" Mini One & Cooper (2001–2006)
R52: "Mk I" Mini Convertible (2004–2008)
R53: "Mk I" Mini Cooper S (2001–2006)
R55: "Mk II" Mini Clubman and D (2007–present)
R56: "Mk II" Mini Hatch/Hardtop range (2006–present)
R57: "Mk II" Mini Convertible (2009–present)
R58: Coupé (not yet launched)
R59: Roadster (not yet launched)
R60: Countryman (2010–present)
R61: Paceman (not yet launched)

I hear ya about the 'What took you so long'. LOL...to be honest...I HATE buying cars. I always feel like I need to take a bath right after leaving a car dealership.
Actually....it's more about the fact that my son who plays travel hockey (yes, in Arizona..lol). He will be getting his permit soon and his license and own beater car in about 8 months. YES!!!!
And I finally got around to getting to a dealership and trying out the hockey bag in the trunk of the cabrio...and guess what??? It fits! (barely). His two hockey sticks will ride in the car 'with' us but that's no big deal especially if we have the top down.
When the weather is a bit cooler (it was 111 today), I will have the top down and he can just throw it in the back and hopefully the fresh air will kill whatever he has growing in that bag. Bonus.

Congrats on the new MINI!
I kept my H3 for the occassional Home Depot run, the offroad shooting range drive and long vacation trips we take occassionally. The MINI is my daily driver.

I have another dumb question that someone might be able to answer. When I pulled a car fax on my MINI, the very first entry states it was imported from the UK. Is that the case with all of them? (I'm sure this is a REALLY dumb question but oh well).

All of the first-gen MINIs were built in Oxford, England. As such, the CARFAX report is correct in saying that yours was imported from the UK.Originally Posted by Jenyphur
