When you ordered your mini, how long did it take schedule your production

so, we ordered our Mini a little bit over a week ago now and been checking the status of it everyday. They told us up to 8 weeks and all that good stuff but I'm curious if anybody here closely tracked it.

Over 1 week in and we are still waiting for it to be "scheduled for production". Maybe this is half the time of the 8 weeks, I really don't know. Just wondering if anybody recalls how long they were in this stage. Thanks for any input.

Call 866-ASK-MINI with your order number or partial VIN; you'll get more info from the automated system. Mine says "Scheduled for Production" online, but the automated phone system says "in body shop with estimated completion date of May 6". Which is tomorrow... woo-hoo!

It also depends on dealer allocation and which model you order. I ordered a jcw on april 9th and the car still has not gone into production.

Do mind telling which model your ordered. We are getting a loaded CooperS convertible. Maybe the cycle which cars the build and such. Hell, I don't know.

did it say "Scheduled for Production with no confirmed production date?"

because mine said that for the first 2 days and then on day 3, it said "your vehicle is scheduled for production with an estimated completion date of May 11."

u can also say customer relations to speak to a live rep. they will tell u what stage ur vehicle is in...but if they say they dont know, that means ur car hasnt started going thru the line yet...just waiting to get produced

I ordered a CooperS as well...hardtop version. Placed order on May 1st 6pm and i got the production number that same day from the salesperson.

Today i called, spoke to the live rep and they told me my car is in the paint shop....so its definitely going thru the line...im surprised its taken u this long just to barely get started seems odd

Yes, that's exactly what it said. I'm guessing the setup up their production to run the same car at the same time type of thing. Maybe run the hardtop for 2 weeks, then the soft top for a week or something like that. I can't see them having 2 separate lines for hard and soft but then again, what the hell do I know.

this is the 3rd BMW i ordered this year so i guess i got a little "street smart" in terms of production slots...for the mini, on week 18, i went around asking different dealers which production week they had available and went to the one that had a week 19 slot, which is this week...others had like week 21, 22, 23...so when he told me week 19, i made him show me his screen...sure enough, i sat there while he changed his inventory car to my specs..and bam it was done...basically the car had a production number BEFORE i even walked in the door and he just flipped it to priority 1 to make it mine (or sold)

I'm thinking we also got our production number on 4/27/11 from the dealer so I'm guessing that's when he ordered it.

Now I remember... My MA ordered the car on 4/26/11 before I put the deposit in on the 27th. He told me I'm week 20. When is week 20?

Yes, this is basically the quickest way to get a car you want ordered. Different dealers get a different amount of production slots. The number is based on the number of cars they sell and how often they need shipments of new ones. From what I understand every dealer custom builds every car they get for their lot. The goal is to order what you can sell obviously. If a customer comes in and is willing to put a deposit down and order a car, they basically consider that car sold. This incentive lets them give up their next available production slot and build it to your specs instead of theirs. Most dealers tell you about 8 weeks from ordering to delivery, if you happen to order from a dealer with high volume and sales then you can get it much quicker. Their production slots are fairly evenly spread I believe. So the chance of a production slot being close by is much higher at a dealer with more production slots.

I ordered mine and picked it up less than 30 days later, granted I am on the east coast. I literally got my production number and within a day or two it was already heading down the line. The longest part of the process is waiting for it to be shipped and then handled at the port and transported to the dealer.

May 16th is the start of week 20 I believe.

My sig says it, but we had a really close slot to enter production - 2 days from locking down the configuration and it going to "Scheduled for Production". As others have said, it was a couple of days after that when the automated voice system at ASK-MINI, the human operator there and my MA could confirm a scheduled completion date of May 9th. That is a really long time, but there were 4 bank holidays and easter weekend in there.

I have read elsewhere that these dates tend to be conservative. But May 9th is Monday and today (Friday) it just moved to "Entered Body Shop" which is the real start of manufacturing on the line. Sounds like the May 9th date is right on the nose for me. Depends on if they are working weekend shifts or not.

YMMV

To be scheduled for production took 2 weeks. But I ordered it right before Christmas, so they had the 2 weeks off for Christmas and New Years. Then it arrived in Hawaii in the last week of February.

Well, it ended up being today - May 10th. One day longer than the date they quoted starting about April 23 or so. No conservatism there!

Also, I stayed in the "Body shop" stage all weekend (was there on Friday) so I am convinced they are not working weekends right now!
