Picking up my Cooper S Friday!
Picking up my Cooper S Friday!
Hi, my name is Joe and I'm from Freehold, NJ. On Friday, I'll be picking up my first Mini, but I'm no noob to cars. The Mini dealership in Oakhurst, NJ didn't have a car in stock that met my specifications, so they had to have one transferred from a sister store. I currently own a 2010 Mustang GT and a 2000 Miata with an FMII turbo kit installed. In the past, I've owned an Rx7 turbo, an Impreza, and a 1991 Miata.
Due to the inclement weather this winter, I decided to purchase a car that won't end up killing me by Spring (fwd ftw!) that will get good gas mileage (I'm sick of spending $100 a week on gas), and provide reasonable performance. The Cooper S is really the only car that met all of my criteria. I'll probably end up installing an intake, upgraded intercooler, turbo back exhaust, and AccessPort in the Spring. I have the spec sheet for the car out in my Mustang, so I'll post that up shortly!

Congratulations, and welcome to the club
How has been your experience with that MINI dealer? I bought mine from Princeton MINI, but Oakhurst is closer for service. Just wondering.
Post some pics on your new ride.

Congrats, can't wait to see pics of your new MINI!
Only one more day of waiting, I envy you haha.

Congrats! I haven't gotten to the new MINI in Oakhusrt, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the area. I used to live in Holmdel/Middletown, not too far from you in Freehold. Hope you enjoy the car.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and though the wait has only been a few days, I'm already extremely anxious. Mini of Oakhurst provided one of the best experiences that I've had at a car dealership. I was seen by a salesman right away, we were off for a test drive within 5 minutes, and we found a car, negotiated a price, and did all of the paperwork within two hours of my arrival. Not to mention, they gave my 18 month old son a plush bulldog! This is a fast sale compared to most dealerships that I've worked with in my life.
So, are there any Mini clubs or drives in Central Jersey that I should be aware of?

Although not too impressive when compared to a turbo RX-7, you might actually be surprised how competant your new MINI will be when compared to your Miatas (Miata fans tend to be pretty harsh on MINIs, but in reality they are very comparable)...not to mention the S's capability to blow a base-Impreza away!. I'm qualified to say so because I've owned all these cars. The 2010 Mustang GT I don't know about, but I'd bet it's just a totally different animal and not really valid to compare.
Below are some images of my car taken with my phone, but I'll get some more with my camera as the weather improves and I add some mods. I'm enjoying the car so far, but it needs more power, torque steer and wheelspin are driving me nuts after coming from RWD cars, and I only got 23 mpg on my first tank of fuel. Other than that, the car is a blast to drive. I ordered a 2" antenna from Alta, a factory armrest, and I'm getting my windows tinted this weekend. I'm debating whether or not to order a turboback while they're on sale and I'm also hoping the Accessport for 2011s comes out soon!

Even though your MINI S will be front wheel drive, don't kid yourself, there is plenty of performance to get you in trouble. Your MINI will be an all around different experience that I hope you love as much as I do.

Congrats! I like the color and I think the chrome line interior was a good choice to break up the all-black theme the 2011 MINI's have now. Only thing you have to do is remove that bluie protective film that it looks like the dealer missed along the edge of the hood.
This is definitely my favorite color out of the entire MINI color line-up and to think, I went to the dealership with the intention of buying a silver or black Cooper S! I noticed the blue film when I was looking at the pictures I took and quickly removed it. The door sills also had the blue film left on them.
I may actually be selling our Mustang and buying a used Cooper S for my wife, since she likes the MINI so much. Although I drive the Mustang much more than her (she's a stay at home mom), finding a low mileage 2006 S may allow me to recoup some cash from the Mustang!
