Hi
NO!!! Do not do CVT.
R50 MINI CVTs have been known for premature failure and the cost to replace the transmission is a mere $7000.
Learn to drive a stick or buy an R53 MINI Cooper S automatic.

CVTs came only in the Gen1 Mini Coopers (MCs, Justas, non-Ss) through model year 2006. If you're interested in a MC automatic, I think most of us would suggest looking for a 2007 or later, which have the Aisin 6-speed/steptronic.
Many NAM members have a knee-jerk negative reaction against CVTs. While I couldn't find comparative data on transmission failure rates, the CVT seems to be the only MINI transmission that must be completely replaced when it fails. Costs/estimates for replacement at dealerships seem to fall in the $6000 to $9000 range.
