An oil change wouldn't hurt. Who knows when maintenance was done last.

Based on physical age of the car, the coolant could be flushed, as well as new brake fluid bled through.

I change my transmission fluid every 20k, so it is almost time. There are still dirty break-in particles in there.

Basically, change all the fluids.

A good schedule:
Oil - 7,500
Transmission - 20,000
Coolant - 2 years
Brake fluid - 2 years, 1 in wet climate
Power steering - "lifetime" top off occasionally ONLY with Pentosin CHF 11S

As for the oil, Mobile 1, castrol, and Royal purple are what most ppl use on NAM.

Hey, welcome to the mini community, NAM is the best place for Do it yourselfers, troubleshooting, modding, research, and questions. Enjoy!

Also if you plan on modding your mini the Supercharger pulley is a great place to start. Check out Waymotorworks.com

I consider aftermarket to be superior save the coolant (BMW stuff is really good) and the power steering fluid (only Pentosin CHF 11S, other stuff will eat the seals in our electro-hydrolic systems)

What I use. I spare no expense:

Oil - AMSOIL Signature 0W-30, about $75 for one oil change, not including OEM filter.
Transmission - Redline MTL (manual transmission) $25 for two quarts.
Coolant - BMW coolant (OEM) I forgot it's cost, obtained from dealer.
Brake fluid - Motul RBF 660, about $60 for 2 bottles and I have both flushed through.
Power steering - Pentosin CHF 11S (OEM) I forgot it's cost, obtained from dealer.
