Hello from Atl, considering an 05-06 R53 MCS
Hello everyone
The gf has wanted a Mini for a couple of years now, and after doing some research lately I'm starting to really like these cars. If I were to buy this, I want something fun and sporty that I can drive the hell out of as well (and practice my autocrossing and stick-shifting at the same time). I'm looking at 05-06 6-speed MCS's (more power, post-MMC). Possibly white with the black stripes. My other cars includes a black C55 AMG, so I don't really need another high-hp V8 in the garage (nor another black car in general). The Mini really seems to fit a nice niche in the "fun as hell to drive" category.
Aside from some of my searches on here, anything else I should look out for?

Hello and welcome!
First off, good luck with your search for a Mini that's to your liking. General concensus seems to be that for an R53, the '06 is the preferred year; guess they had as many of the bugs worked out of them as they could before bringing out the next generation. Take a look at the 1st Gen pages of the forum and you should be able to find the specifics of what you should definitely check out before purchasing.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. From my board surfing, this group definitely seems like a happy and welcoming group. I get this as well from the AMG guys, but the non-AMG MB's are unfortunately filled with too many dbags. I think the Mini owners are just a little bit more giddy than the AMG's though! I'm liking these more and more - the only thing is that the gf wants automatic and the only car I'm going to buy is a stick, so I guess she's going to have to learn or she won't drive her dream car at all! I hope clutches are cheap and easy to change on these cars....
As for bing, sure...
