Ordered!

After much help from this forum I have finalized my MINI.

-Pepper White with PW Roof/Mirrors and Black Racing Stripes
-Cold Package
-Sport Package with Black Web Spokes
-6 Speed (Thanks for all the input on that choice guys)
-Hi-Fi - Even if it isnt that good I now have 10 factory mounting spots for aftermarket...but something tells me I'd rather listen to the car anyway
-Checkered Cloth Seats
-Piano Black Interior Option (Free from dealer)

25,850 order, Paid 25,200, which I think is good for an order. Pretty much waved the destination charge.

Name is Jeremy

Best of all...I got a slot for this weeks production. Should hit the line tomorrow and be at the dealer by the third week in July!
Next available slot was a month later than that. 3 Week delivery...**** Yea!

Oh and I test drove the auto...car is solid as a brick and the controls are almost like a video game. Right now I drive a 1989 Buick and I really wanted to buy an in stock just to drive it home. I was impressed and then some.

thanks for all the help on decisions and the input toward my options.

Judging by all those freebies and getting an immediate production spot... you must just be a better negotiator .

Not really, a good friend of mine knows the owner of the dealer ship which was most of my money off, however the spot was all about the MA. When he orders his MINI he's gonna tell me and I'll buy him something for it

I do have one more question before I get it. I'm getting 5 regular tires and selling the runflats. Any recommendations? Stock 17x7.5 Web Spokes

Tires depends on where you drive. Winter snow and ice? winter sun and rain? we all know what summer is for! If snow are you planning to run two sets of tires. Blizzaks for winter or something like that? The tire section is where to go for those answers. Lots of reading there.

Mine won't be four seasoned for a couple years, I have the all season tires on and will get winter tires and summer tires when the time comes. Makes a big difference on these lightweight cars.

Congrats on the new car, it'll be beautiful !!! On tires, depends a bit on what size you want 205/45-17 is stock. Lot of us have opted for 215/45-17 some even larger 225/45 or 235/40 but depending on tire, there might be some clearance issues. On the less expensive side you have General Exclaim UHP which some like, on the high end Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Toyo, Yokohama, Kumho all make some good tires. Type in your size choice and read some reviews on Tirerack and Discount Tire, it'll give you some ideas and prices.

I've found tires. Imma go with the Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid as recommended. The question then becomes...how much are four brand new stock runflats worth and will someone buy them?

Malteseracer,

Congrats on the order!!!!! You will LOVE IT!!! I have the runflats and it is the first car I have had with them. To be honest, I will be getting the next set WITHOUT runflats and then purchase a SLIME kit with compressor for $70. You will soon, if not already, checking the web hourly to see where your baby is in its production status and shipping! Be sure to post pics when you get the ride in!!!

Went into production. The site is about 2 days late normally so that means it has been on the assembly line for 2 days now...how long do they take to build? When could I expect to have it here so I can finally get to play with the clutch a little bit.
The last time I drove an S in stick I kept stalling it because the only other car I've ever driven with a stick is a 1991 Corolla and the clutch is REALLY deep compared to the MINI. I'll work on that. Speaking of which I have a nub question:
In my automatic car if I'm at a light or something, or traffic I take my foot off the brake and let the engine idle me to wherever I'm going. How do I do that in a stick? Just let the clutch out until it catches? Wouldn't it stall?

Yes, let it out some - you may have to use your right foot to give it a little gas to raise the idle speed to keep from stalling. Be aware though that this practice does lead to accelerated clutch wear over time.

Yes I'm definitely aware of that, but being that this is not only my first stick shift but my first car (atm I drive my dad's second car), it's all a learning experience. I assume I'll be replacing the clutch a lot sooner than most people and have come to terms with that being what happens when you choose a clutch over an automatic.

Hill Assist

Mini's come with hill assist, a system to keep the brakes engaged without stepping on the brake, to keep the car from rolling unintentionally.

If this is your first manual, you might try renting a manual (any will do) for a day and spend the time in a parking lot learning to start and stop. Then go for a bit of road time on non-crowded roads and learn to shift up and down through the gears. This way, most of your clutch wear will be on the rental and not on your MINI. Way cheaper than fixing a clutch.

I did practice on a friend's car, but when I got into the MINI I found the clutch throw to be very short, which totally made me lose my feel for it. Hopefully I can get in a MINI once or twice more and get a better feel for it. I really looking forward to the stick shift and learning how to use it properly. I can really see the fun and control it gives you even in the simple parking lot times I've used it.

It is now awaiting transport as of today or last night on the owner's lounge. When should I be expecting a VIN and when can expect to pick it up, roughly? Some of you guys seem to know more about tracking than I, but I cannot find the post with all the info on it.

Drove a new stick shift for the first time today since driving the MINI maybe 2 weeks ago. Didn't stall or anything. Drove it as well as my automatic. Idk what happen but all of a sudden I can drive a stick. I'm very excited to get the MINI now and a lot less afraid of the manual.

Did you go to howstuffworks within the last two weeks and read "how a manual transmission works"? After I learned what exactly the clutch was doing, my driving improved.
