MINI Meant to be

Hi:
In approximately 24 hours, I will be picking up my new MINI. Kind of a long story behind it.

I went to the dealership on June 07 and placed the order and luckily got a June build slot. Tracked it through the plant and across the ocean to the point of it getting on the truck for transport. Unfortunately, about the time it showed up at the dealership, I became really, really ill. To the point that I did not know if I would ever be able to walk again. So to add to the stress of that, trying to arrange the loan and make the 160 mile round trip to the dealer seemed just ludicrous so I cancelled the car, much against the advice of friends and family as they all thought the car would make me happy. I was more concerned about being able to work and pay for it as well as being able to drive it.

When I called my MA, he said no problem they'd refund my deposit and had several people they could sell it to. Fast forward a couple weeks and I'm feeling much better (better living through chemistry). I called my MA to see about ordering another car and he told me that it would take 4 to 5 months to arrive, BUT, my car was still there. They had put it in the showroom so I put my deposit back down on it. He told me that I had to wait for them to replace it on the floor. Called me back the next day and said I could pick the car up this Saturday. He told me the car was obviously meant for me.

That is OUTSTANDING! I wonder why it wasn't sold already? I'm so very happy for you -- first that you're feeling better, and second that you'll get your MINI so soon! You're right - it was meant to be.

Welcome to the MINIverse and Happy Motoring! Oh, and don't forget to wave at MINIs.

Good to hear you're feeling better and that you'll be getting the car you originally ordered. Who knows why the one you speced out didn't sell, I guess it's a MINI that best fits your unique tastes.

Not sure why they didn't sell it, maybe the automatic tranny, which I am going to really need now. At least it was "deemed" show room worthy.

As your title says ... sometimes some things are just "meant to be." I'm very pleased to hear that you are well and that you'll be even better tomorrow.

Everyone's already said it, but it must be so. Normally, I'm not necessarily a believer in 'meant to be', but I'm in agreement this time. I'm glad for you that you'll get another chance at your dream car.

Enjoy it, and Happy Motoring!

This is an amazing story. Very cool. I can't wait to see pics of your new MINI.

BTW, I love your screen name. I grew up listening to the group.

Thank you everyone, and Joep, I too grew up listening to 3dognight but in my case, the term does truly indeed refer to a cold or stormy night. When the weathers bad, we literally have 3 dogs in our bedroom as well as 2 cats.

A funny thing is that when I finally got in to see my neurologist and I told him about cancelling the car, he told me I was crazy. He obviously knew what a MINI was. Told me that he would have told me to sell my horse before letting go of the car. He ordered me to reorder the car. I asked him to write it on a prescription so I could submit it to my health insurance.

Wow - I need more prescriptions like that!! Great doctor, by the way.

Awesome Story!! I agree w/X uh oh X you have a very inspriring Dr., others could learn great things from him.

You really learn to appreciate those things you have had to work extra hard for, let's hope your illness is no more and you can "GET MOTORING!!!"

Just an added thought on Personalized Plates, "MNT2BE"??

Congratulations on your recovery and your car.

You health is everything.

A MINI, however, is something else!

Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts. Unfortunately, with MS, you never quite know what's going to happen with your health.

We made it home, too dark for pictures though. I will take some later today, but right now I just want to get back in and go motoring on some funner roads than the Interstate.

My MA gave me a stuffed bulldog with a MINI shirt. I may have to change my screen name to 4dognight.
