I stopped by the dealership to check on mine again and it is still at the dock. I hope I catch a boat this week because I have been waiting 13 days now. I'll keep everyone informed.

Am I missing something here?

(I ask too because I bought my Mini from Nashville because I could take delivery on it next week when STL was closer to mid-September.)
The nearest dealer to me is in Winston-Salem (3 hours) and then Charlotte at 4 hours away. I own an auto service center and will be doing my own service work... I was joking when I said it would suck to go 3 hours for a service. My dealer wants us to bring in our car once a year to have them go over it. I won't be complaining about HAVING to drive my mini on a 3 hour tour! it will be a pleasure!

Waiting to get on a ship was the worst of this process for me, so far.
You nailed it. bad timing all around.

Well we're about the cross the threshold to July 6th. Two more days till Charleston for those of us on the Caribbean Highway. I'm going to call my MA on Monday to see what I need to do to get him ready for us to take delivery (putting him together with my credit union).

My first order of business with my MA is to tell him point blank that there is to be NO dealer decal placed on the vehicle. He wouldn't even toss in the mats, so why should I advertise them, particularly when their decals have a tendency to fall off and leave a silhouette later.

Other than that, it's "Call me a day before it's ready" and I can go by State Farm for the insurance coverage sheet, then to State Credit Union for the check, then to the dealer the following day Then I'll probably go for a week pure stock before I start modding like crazy.

Types of insurance best for our Mini's

While we're waiting... just a few more days. .....what type of insurance do any of you plan to carry? What insurance company have you have good experience with?

I've been with American Family a v-e-r-y long time. Excellent company and our agent is tops. We have a Honda 2003 (not mine!) and a 2004 MC covered with $500 deductible, under/uninsuranced etc. ~ $109 month - but now, we'll be adding a 17 year old....no more low rates for us!

But until now, reading this board, I did not realize that my Mini (now soon to be plural!) might not be covered for MINI parts. I plan on talking to my agent tomorrow. That has to be a must for any future policy!

Miniusa.com has a bit about Liberty Mutual...an extra 10% off, guaranteed Mini replacement parts, and more. Do any of you know anything about LM? Good, bad, or otherwise?

And, lastly, what about GAP insurance? Is it worth the $$?
Your input is appreciated!
CJ

My family coverage is State Farm. Have no idea if they cover Mini parts? I never considered that they might not? Me confused now.

On another note: the sun has set on another day. Time to crawl into bed and begin July 7th tomorrow -- one day until the Caribbean Hwy docks in Charles Town.

If you've got a loan, get GAP. If for some reason you get in an accident and your insurance doesn't cover it or the other person's insurance doesn't cover it (SC insurance minimums are 25,000 property damage, which is below my loan amount...), etc etc, it's covered. The one offered by my CU is only 345$, covers the full term of the loan, and will pay everything except my insurance deductible if it was my fault. Plus they'll give me 1000$ towards the purchase of a new vehicle within 60 days.

Not a bad deal if you ask me. I'm also planning on getting life insurance (since it's cheap for a youngin like I) and a 72/100K warranty. Pretty much try and be covered from all angles...

The Emden is docked, and the Caribbean and Courage are expected tomorrow. Just calm down

Your insurer may not want to pay for repairs by a BMW/MINI dealer as it would be more costly than repairs from Honest Joe's Automotive. Depends on the quote and such.

Well you lucky people will have your MINIs soon. Mine unfortunately is still showing awaiting transport. Maybe he is just confused on the whole boat ride. Maybe he is afraid of the water. I'll send them a life jacket if that will get him on a boat quicker. I may one day see my new MINI.

The waiting continues.

If you go to the Mini's Owner's Louge, under Financial Services, you'll see a link on the left for Motoring Insurance. It is offered exclusively to Mini owners from Liberty Mutual. Here is where I read that they only offer genuine MINI replacement parts. That's when I wondered if my American Family insurance did or did not and posed this question to this thread.

I called my agent - to get a quote to add this new MINI to our policy and asked about this. He said I can take either of my MINI's to any body shop and the repair would be covered. (Now, he couldn't tell me yet what would happen if their adjusters determined that I could get a cheaper - i.e. non-OEM part and that would be all they would pay towards my claim -- I'm still waiting to hear back on that one.)

Yesterday, I looked on Consumer's report and State Farm was ranked at #6, American Family #12, and Liberty Mutual #16. Mostly in terms of affordability and customer service.

So, given my decent rate and very good service (I'm always about the service!) I am going to stick with American Family. I have no complaints about them - but then - I haven't ever made a claim on my '04 Mini.

I will be looking into GAP insurance though!
