Honda Insight

I would like to discuss Honda Insight with other owners. What has worked the best and what are you having problems with?
My Insight is a 2001 with CVT and A/C. It used to get 47 to 50 miles per gallon but now I get 59.1 miles per gallon and I have to drive up and down the hills in North West Illinois.

Please forgive this unkind question, but you are posting this in a MINI forum, why?

I'm surprised nodoby has pointed out the irony of him owning a car called an 'Insight'.

My Honda gets 58.5 MPG and has 203,000 miles on it with no major repairs. Just oil clhanges at 6,000 and 2 new tires for the front end every fall because of the cold snowy winters here.
What great things does your mini do?

Other than deliver a smile-inducing driving experience your Insight could only dream of, while still managing to pull down very impressive fuel economy?

For sure. He wants to raise some tempers. Don't give him the attention he craves. He obviously has dire insecurities regarding his ride or he wouldn't be here.

I so badly want to argue that since my MINI carries twice as many people while still getting 66% of the same fuel economy on the highway that it is technically the more efficient vehicle, or that the 15K mile prescribed oil change interval is also better for the environment, or that my car doesn't eat tires every 12 months. The insight would be a great car if I didn't own a bicycle, walk, or use public transportation in place of the environments it was designed to operate in.

I briefly considered an Insight recently for an alternative commuter vehicle and what I found that's not often discussed is that there are a lot of Insights for sale in the 100,000-140,000 mile range. Why? Because Honda had a program where they would take care of battery issues or any problems up until 150,000 miles. After that you'll need to spend around $3,000- $5,000 buying new batteries. I saw one on Craigslist for $4,000 but it needed a new computer--and after talking to a dealer service guy, he said that computer controls EVERYTHING and is extremely expensive--something like $10,000 or something crazy.

Anyways, the Insight is nothing compared to the MINI--so why even bother to discuss it? There are plenty of other places online to share your misery with just by using Google.

Yeah I talked to him about his. He said driving it on the highway was like flying in a kite. You get blown all over the place.
