New member, getting ready to order my MCS!!!

Been lurking on the forums for a few and am finally at the stage to order my Mini! Looking to get a Laser blue/black. Just had a question about one of the accessories. Does anyone know the difference in the alarms available for the Mini? If you add it on one step it is $500. Yet if you add it at step 5, it is only $225! Is the factory alarm worth it or should I go buy an aftermarket one?

Thanks in advance!

Vince

Hi there, the $225 option is for the alarm only. $500 includes installation at the factory, so it's the better choice.

Congratulations on your MCS

Plus, without the post-factory installation, it'll be delivered more quickly too.

oops! Sorry if confusing...just to clarify, ordering the $500 alarm option is the better choice, as the alarm gets installed when the car is actually built, thus avoiding the hassle of having it installed by the dealer after the fact. Getting the alarm at the dealer will lengthen your wait time for the car and potentially be a lot more expensive.

I.e. if you decide to go with the factory alarm choose the $500 option and have it installed at the factory!

Yeah- sorry, that's my fault with the double negative posted there. Almost certainly more expensive (the website does not include charges for dealer installations) and definitely a longer delay going with the dealer-installed.

I've gotten the Mini alarm in both of mine and was never sorry...but I guess I'm also not much of a "modder" so I like Mini standard stuff. The alarm LED light indicator is a pretty cool glow at any rate...looks a little like Kit from Knight Rider.

Led? Where is your led? I found a pdf file of the installation and it only lists the sensors in the alarm package and a dealer computer reprograming..... STill debating on it tho factory or....

There are actually a row of LEDs under the red plastic housing on top of the tach that pulse with a soft glow when you arm the system.
