How long does it TAKE to hitch a ride???

I am TRULY bummed out ... my mini was completed on 11/22/07 ... I fully expected to catch the Integrity out of Southhampton on 12/01/07 and be at the VDC in South Carolina on 12/15ish ... but alas ... for some reason I can't explain my poor sad little mini still sits "awaiting transport" ... I know there were cars completed after mine that made the boat so I'm wondering ... did I miss a memo? Was there some 'get on the boat tax' I was supposed to pay and didn't know about ... is it "who you know??"

Lamenting aside .. I called ASK-MINI and they were no help ... once it leaves the production line they are apparently as unable to find out when a car will make what ship as I apparently am ... I called my MA and he 'went to check' and amazingly came back with the WW web address telling me I could enter the VIN and see what ship my car was on ... well YEAH ... I knew that ...

So ... other than the WW site and ASK-MINI and calling your less than adept MA ... is the ANY other way I can find out WHY I didn't make the ship I expected and WHEN I will make a ship??? .. and ... is it TYPICAL to wait more than a week to catch a boat??

Completely disgruntled I am ...

This happened to me, and by the time I found out what was going on, my MINI was 3/4 of the way to Charleston!

What it is - you are probably on "K-Line". When you enter your VIN on WW, do you get the dreaded red phrase? Something about they have no record of your car? If so, you are probably on K-Line.

What VDC are you coming in to?

YES ... I get the dreaded red line ....

Soooooooooo ... what's "K-Line" and how do I find out if my auto is on that line??

I 'assume' I will go through the South Carolina VDC since that is closer to Texas.

Thanks for giving me some hope!!

If its coming into charleston you should be able to check the vessel schedule on this web page

http://www.port-of-charleston.com/

K-line shows as Carolina shipping. This is the only way to look at K-line, I'm sorry. You can look at when the ship was supposed to leave jolly old England and have some clue what ship you might be on.

My baby came in thru South Carolina as well, on her way to Texas. She came in on WW http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTrac...trackType=Auto (type in your VIN where it says cargo ID). This will let you know which ship your MINI will be on. My baby was supposed to ship out earlier as well, but "missed" the boat. She sat on the dock for about a week. I checked the next scheduled ship out and she made it on that one. This might be what happened to yours. It was a total of about 6 weeks from when she was ordered to when I took delivery. I know how excited you are, but your baby will be here before you know it! I also found the call sign for the ship and tracked it across the ocean....yes, I was that obsessed. Don't worry, your baby is just as excited to meet you too. Good luck!!

Thank you both ...

Since Maria is in San Antonio and that is where mine will come I 'suspect' mine just for whatever reason missed the 12/1/07 boat and HOPEFULLY will be on the 12/8/07 ... which would be over 2 weeks from completed production to boarding a ship ...

You are right the anticipation is debilitating impatient:impatient

I'll try and see about the K-Line thing as well but apparently unlike WW you can't check with a VIN # on K-Line.

If you get the red phrase, you do not have a booking with WW and you are not on their line. You are probably already on K-Line ship.

Is there any way to check passage on the K-Line ?

... like there is on WW or do you just have to keep your fingers crossed?

I looked up K-Line shipping and according to their schedule there is a ship
"EMDEN" by name that was scheduled to leave Southhampton on 11/30 and be in Charleston on 12/13 ... I could have made that ship since I was done with production on 11/22 ....

K-Line appears to want a BL (Bill of Lading) number for tracking which I suspect is NOT the VIN number ... so if someone knows how to determine if a particular Mini by VIN number is on a K-Line ship I'm all ears!!

Someone is obsessed, and I admire that in a MINI owner! If your not absolutely taken with your MINI you shouldn't be allowed to own one.

I'm on a K-line ship that left on Nov 23rd. I found out through my MA. She told me the arrival date and I figured out what ship from there.

Thanks ... I'll got beat up my MA ...

... I still get a kick out of calling the "salesmen" "Motoring Advisors" ... what a hoot!

I'm curious ... online at the owner's lounge mine still shows "awaiting transport" ... when on K-Line does that change to "en route"?

We just ordered our new MINI thats going into production so she will be making the same trip. I had to go back and pull some of my old tracking information that I used for our 06 to figure out whats going on but we are coming through Charleston this time instead of California so its a different ball game. The waiting process is definately the worst....then in a close second is breakin time once you take delivery.

Mine came in on a K-Line through Charleston in November. Your MA can let you know if it is on a K-Line vessel and then you can track the vessel through the port of Charleston website. It almost certainly is on a K-Line vessel with that long an apparent wait time and no recognized VIN on the WW site.
If your MA does not know how to confirm your vessel - try another MA with experience with this. My MA had no problem letting me know about the K-Line transport. The MINI hot line and owners lounge are not helpful here.

It me took about 4-5 business days to switch to en route in the OL after the ship sailed.

The only way to know about K-Line is through your MA. And unfortunately, MAs tend to be a little slow. The owner's lounge is even slower. Mine still showed my MINI as being on a ship when my MA called to tell me my MINI was at the dealership.

Yea!!!!!!! MiniRita has been located!!!

Well actually the ship carrying her to Charleston has been identified ...

Sure enough K-Line ... ship is EMDEN ... port of Charleston shows she should arrive 12/13 ... the K-Line link shows she is scheduled to arrive 12/16 soooo .. SOMEWHERE in that area ...

My MA did finally call with the info after I hounded him for a few days ... he indicates about 5-7 days from Charleston to San Antonio so ... PROBABLY not before Christmas .. but shortly there after!

I'm just glad to have it confirmed she is enroute ....

Thanks to the folks that made suggestions to me about how to confirm her whereabouts

Bade

Great!
The Port of Charleston site is the best way to track but the info may change so keep looking. If it comes in by 12/13-16 - I think you probably will have it by 12/25 if it does not get hung up at the VDC and weather permitting. Mine only took 7 days between landing to arriving at the dealership in Houston. At this point - it is pretty much a communications "black hole" between the landing in Charleston and arrival at your dealership.
