Vin check...
My Mini's VIN says it's an '08.

Make sure you are looking at the 5th number, not 5th character. Mine is scheduled for a 12/6 build and the 5th number is 8.
According to the VIN decoder page, my MC hardtop is a convertible. This is because the dealer modified a previously ordered convertible to fit my order. He did this in order to get my car here a little sooner. I know the 08 convertibles have been showing up in dealerships, so I wonder if my car is actually an 07 coupe. This could be one explanation as to how an 07 car could be showing as an 08 model.
The insurance company will surely need an explanation on why they shouldn't charge me for a convertible premium!

That site is old I think and the VIN decoding is no longer accurate. I would go by the review order details on the tracking page.
A couple of things...
I think, as another poster pointed out, week 48 was the changeover as you don't see a 48 support group.
From this point on all completed MINIs will be 08s so if you are week 49 it will be an 08. MINI cannot sell an 07 as an 08 because the packages changed. There is just enough difference in the packages between the two model years that it will make a difference down the road when you look at resell value. For example in 07 the Xenon were part of a package but they are no longer in that package for 08. If someone was looking to purchase an 08 MINI with Xenon lights they would need to look for that option explicitly where if they looked at an 07 they could look for the package that Xenon came in as well as the stand-alone option.
From what I can tell I'm week 50 at this point.
Oh... and I've not heard of or read anywhere that the Oxford plant shuts down. Some of the German auto-makers shut their plants down for 4 weeks but that is because of the national 4 week holiday some countrys have. England is not one of them.

The VIN decoder page is all BS except for the first three characters WMW. Says the 4th char. should be R, mine is 'M'. Says gasoline char six should be 3 for gas, 1 for diesel, mine is 7, the inaccuracies continue.

Ditto here. Looks like were on the same boat (Pun Intended).
How do you know the port that is holding your car? I've simply been told that it is at a port waiting to be loaded onto a boat. I've assumed it was going out from Southampton. I have also been unable to get my car to register on the WW tracking site.
My MINI is also scheduled for the FREEDOM, which arrives in Charleston on the 23rd and Brunswick, GA on the 24th for eventual delivery to Baton Rouge.
Anybody know how long it takes to go from eastern port to south-central US?

Maybe I'm doing something incorrectly, but I can't seem to get my car to show up on the WW tracking site. I've used the VIN number in their "auto cargo" section with no success. The owner's lounge information still shows me awaiting transport. To my knowledge, the car has been at the port since Monday. Any suggestions?

We are in production with our 2nd MINI as well and its an 08...I am just hoping that it hitches a ride across before Christmas. Would be awesome to take delivery this year but no matter what it wont be soon enough!
The next WW departure for Port Hueneme is the TASCO on 12/10 arriving 12/31. Sure hope mine makes it. The following WW departure for Port Hueneme is the Madame Butterfly on 12/17 arriving 1/7/08. I guess I will just keep trying my VIN hoping that it shows up. Production was to be completed today.
